I only rely on the time telling and timer functions and they work great. Other functions like the tide graph are nice to have in my case.
The upcoming model GWF-D1000 (June 2016) will feature more useful dive features like water temperature and depth measurements, but this has a nicer face design in my opinion and is the last model to have EL backlight.
Normally, I look past flaws; little things don't typically bug me, but with regards to this watch the flaw is large enough in my opinion to mention here because it affects comfort while wearing the watch. This issue is the clasp, and in this model it has a design and/or production flaw in my opinion that allows the pointy end of the buckle, near where it attaches to the band closest to the skin, to irritate the skin while the watch is worn.
The stainless steel buckle itself is curved; most Casio bands have a curved case back of one type or another, but the bend is usually towards the buckle tongue end (I had to look up the correct names... bear with me, I'm no watch expert by any stretch), doesn't typically stretch the entire length of the base back, and not at the end of which I speak.
In cases where the case back IS bent, the end of the backing is rounded... smoothed; in this situation the end finishes up with a point that rests directly against the wrist - and this point is kind of uncomfortable if: wearing the band tighter (vs. loose) and if you're resting your arm on an object, like a table (... when typing).
Though this issue might not bug some people, it bothers me... my arm, specifically, and this is the first Casio product that has ever done so. To add, I've worn a Casio G-Shock, of more than a few varieties on my arm for the last several years... literally... almost 24/7, and in my opinion this anomaly is something worth mentioning. To add, I've provided a couple of photos, to include a comparative with my G-Rescue watch, so you know what I might be talking about.
To be clear: I write this here not to dissuade a buyer, but to let Casio know about a flaw (if they read posts like this...). This is a wonderful watch, on par with my Frogmen watch of 15 years ago, only improved... save for this tiny irritant that may bug someone, hence my reason for not providing the perfect rating as this Frogman might otherwise deserve.
For what it's worth, only this consumer's opinion...
The new Frogman combines the best feature of all of the above in a very attractive, highly durable and relatively affordable package. This newer version Frogman is also Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6 atomic synched, plus it offers the basic stopwatch, timer, alarm, moon and tide features and an ISO-rated 200 meter professional diver rating.
Combined, these attributes create the perfect sport watch, in my opinion. The only qualification I'll make is that the GWF-1000-1JF is LARGE. So if you have wrists smaller than about 7.5 inches, this may be too much for you. Mine are 7.75 and I feel like it's about as large as I can reasonably wear. It's not so much the weight or case diameter, but more the vertical lug to lug dimension that limits its fit for smaller wrists. And the height is pretty substantial at 18mm. So keep that in mind.
Above all, if you can manage the size, this model will serve you well. I've only had mine a while, but I think it will likely serve me well for years and years.
It's a keeper.
