Now for the bad. I read the previous reviews and saw a lot of people had problems with the editing. Yes there are quite a few grammar mistakes, and awkwardly put sentences and ideas, but it didn't really affect my reading flow so it was not as big a problem for me. My big problem was with the story itself. Things happen to the main character, something that is pretty terrible and she just kind of shrugs everything off and adapts to everything without much problem.
Her relationship has no buildup. Basically it was insta-love, and she trusts him implicitly every step of the way even though she doesn't really know him.
Also a couple of things got to be pretty repetitive and not interesting at all like the dinner scenes and the sex. Honestly after the first couple of encounters I just started to skip the sex scenes all together. It was very repetitive and these people just go at it like rabbits, which was not necessary for the story. I rather have a few well written encounters versus once every chapter that just repeats the previous one. I mean it felt like the author thought, "that's enough plot for this chapter, let's put in the sex" and repeat same formula for a lot more chapters.
Regardless of all of this we get quite a few action packed moments sprinkled throughout the book and the ending is really exciting. So I recommend you read it, just be warned!
The hero is also obsessed with what and how much the heroine eats. It's brought up every time there is a meal scene, and there is a scene for every. freaking. meal. It feels creepy and controlling.
I want to reiterate that the story is really pretty decent. I want to finish the story and I'm curious about the character that stars in the next book. This would be a great quick read, it just has the page count of an epic.
With all of the greatness in this book... and I'm aware that it's been mentioned by reviewers over and over... the grammar, punctuation, and overall structure of the book is beyond terrible. I had to improvise and add and change entire paragraphs so that it would make more sense. I do not understand why the author is not working on these issues? People are paying to read her work... love her stories... and she's not taking the time or putting forth the effort to fix legitimate irritants that affect her reader's enjoyment? I can understand that this was her first book (?) and that she was new to the game, but this manuscript is SERIOUSLY flawed. It takes away from the experience and frankly, after reading all but one of her books, makes me feel insignificant as a fan and reader. If this was isolated to just this book, that would be one thing... but there are grammatical and structural complaints in almost all of her books.
The only other problem I had is the lovemaking. There was a lot of it (which is just fine with me), but it was the same scene every time. Up against a wall, no foreplay, the exact same dialogue, and wham-bam thank you, ma'am! I would rather have fewer actual love scenes and a bit more creativity. Although, I thoroughly enjoyed the intimacy level of the pair. All the kissing, touching, holding and gazing was swoon-worthy ;-)
I dislike being critical... and I loathe giving this book only 3 stars!! If I hadn't seen the grammatical and structural issues being a huge problem in so many of her books (and her not taking the time to fix them), this would have easily been a 5 star review for me.
