Editorial Reviews

Who stole $250 million in Nazi gold? And who killed General George S. Patton to get away with it? A chilling suspense thriller, Brass Target makes the convincing case that these two actual events - the theft of the bullion and Patton's death ("officially" killed in an auto accident) - were not coincidental. Was Patton assassinated? Grisly fact or engrossing fiction?

The all-star "top brass" cast includes Sophia Loren as a mysterious refugee, John Cassavetes as Maj. Joe De Luca, George Kennedy as Patton, Robert Vaughn as the mastermind behind the plot and Max von Sydow as a cold-blooded assassin. Based on an intriguing book by Frederick Nolan, Brass Target is "a classy conspiracy thriller with one of those great blood-and-guts plots" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). Brass Target takes aim and hits the mark for action-packed suspense.

One of the better what if? movies. By the end of it you are thinking this is what really happened to Patton. As far as I know the disappearence of the Nazi Gold is a mystery that was never solved. and I find it very strange that Patton was the only person injured in the accident that eventually claimed his life. I agree with the previous poster..Bring on the DVD.

BRASS TARGET is a very good (post) war time 'speculative' thriller that was released on December 22, '78 (and earning $5,111,000 domestically), that explores the possibility that Gen. George S. Patton may not have 'just died' in a car accident - but was assassinated as part of a possible gold-robbery scheme. Robert Vaughn plays the corrupt American officer/conspirator who upon fear that an investigation is getting 'closer to home' hires a professional assassin to take out the unyielding Patton before he (Robert Vaughn) is found out.....and then there's the question of what ever became of the $250,000,000 in gold bullion???

The film was shot on location in Switzerland and Munich, Germany, and effectively/simultaneously incorporates two endings into the film's finale.

(Item of interest: George Kennedy who stars as "Patton" in this movie, actually served under the real Patton in World War II. Info: Wiki)

The picture quality is great. Closed Captioning is not included for the hearing impaired.

This film is a great portrait of an authentic hero of WWII. It is tragic that someone got away with killing one of the best generals we've ever had, not to mention get away with hoards of gold bullion.

This is a riveting, bold, plausable, and moving story. Well worth seeing. Bring on a DVD version!! Better yet, re-investigate the crime.

With all the recent interest in WWII I can't understand why this movie hasn't been redone on DVD. It is the one scenario, in my mind that covers most of the questions.

I agree with the other reviews given about this masterpiece of film, what would make it even better is if they ma

Ever since I saw it as a teenager I`ve only see it in 4:3 version. Now for the first time in widescreen version I was even more satisfied and thrilled. I knew that the movie was shot in 2:40.1 Panavision and I am very satisfied with the DVD version. The picture could have been clearer but it is still watchable and enjoyable. Thank you Warner and Amazon.

I love this film. Great cast of character and a great story. It was especially meaningful because I had just finished reading Bill O'Reilly's "Killing Patton" and it brought a lot of his points home. Robert Vaughn was delightfully naughty, Patrick Mcgoohan was wonderfully crazy, John Cassavetes was smoldering angry, Max Von Sydow was as cold as they come, George Kennedy was as good a George C. Scott as Patton and Sophia Loren was beautiful no matter what scene or what she wore.

And the fact that maybe Patton was really assassinated just could be true.
