About the Author

Chrissy Peebles, a practicing nurse, has always loved reading and writing fantasy from the earliest age she can remember. She plotted every single twist she could think of during bedtime stories for her children. When her little ones begged for more adventures, she felt confident enough to let her overeager imagination and sense of humor spill out into her first novel. She lives in Ohio with her husband, two young kids, one hamster, three dwarf hamsters and cat. When she's not taking the kids to Little League soccer, basketball, or baseball, she loves to snap photos as her favorite hobby.

Wow, what a ride! Kind of a Gulliver's travels meets Jurassic park with all the teenage lingo to go along! Good story! I liked the fantasy aspect of the world with all the monsters and prehistoric creatures. Chrissy Peebles has created a sense of mystery that builds page to page of 'what the hell is this world?' The main characters are constantly trying to figure out where they are and the reader gets peeks into their thought processes, with a lot of gag lines to go along. By the time a mysterious human-like character gets on the scene things are really cooking. We are wondering, where is this guy from? Did they go back in time? Are they in the centre of the earth? Another planet? I must admit, there are a lot of twists I didn't see coming, which was refreshing.

The story consists of three teenage characters who complement each other, giving diverse personality and experience for a lot of dialogue which the author seems to have a knack for and fun with: Jack, handy with science and bit of a walking encyclopaedia Britannica; Mike, a high school star surfer/player/jaunty talker with women always on his mind; Casey, young, adventurous, head over heels with Mike, and equipped with an honesty, spunky heart, and a drive for 'doing the right thing'. The content has wide popular appeal, and with quick pacing and crisp dialogue and short narration makes the story hum along.

Casey is a fun character, and although she's in the throes of teenage heartache, she is still savvy. I chuckled at the following line:

Heat rose in Casey's cheeks. She couldn't believe she was acting like one of Mike's girls at the beach, falling for the same dumb crap they did.

This is a delightful romp into what could be. Even though it was all explained eventually it was nice to explore a world of possibilities as the characters moved from reality to could it be true to that's impossible. I very much enjoyed the journey with them and was sad when it ended.

As an adult reader, however, I found the constant bickering between the boys became annoying beyond belief. As a teen reader, I would probably have found it cute. Peebles did an awesome job of portraying teens as they are at their most annoying and it defiantly brought out the mother in me in that I wanted to smack their heads together! I'm not sure, though, that I would change anything. Maybe tone it down a bit or let them grow up a little. After everything they go through I would think they would get some level of maturity. Maybe.

I very much enjoyed reading this book with its twists and turns, constant adventure and even the time I wanted to smack those boys for being so immature! This is a definite must read.

This young adult novel reads like a smashup between Jurassic Park, Jumamji, and War of the Worlds. There isn't a dull moment in this fast-paced adventure starring three teenagers who manage to keep you entertained on every page. This action-packed book has everything a good adventure needs: a reckless idiot who is loveable but still manages to add his own brand of trouble to the situation (Mike), a cautious and intelligent know-it-all who is ever the voice of reason (Jack), and one tough chick who both guys are love with (Casey).

I have to say my favorite character in this book is Jack. He's intelligent, he's witty, and he really gets Casey. The poor guy can't catch a break since Casey is clearly infatuated with Mike. Like any schoolgirl with a crush she is oblivious to anyone outside of her little obsession. Toward the end of the book, Casey seems to start noticing things about Jack that she never did before, making me hope desperately that Casey would turn her affections from Mike to him. The dynamic of this love triangle adds just one more interesting layer to an already complex and multi-dimensional story.

Peebles creates a world like something we would see on the silver screen, and creates visual effects through writing that you can literally picture in your mind's eye. Fierce dinosaurs will remind you of Jurassic park, giant man-eating snakes and spiders will make your skin crawl, and mutant bugs will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Space invaders in laser-shooting UFOs will make you look twice at the night sky. But even in a world inhabited by the deadliest creatures imaginable, the author manages to create some beautiful moments filled with singing flowers, butterflies that leave trails of fairy dust, color-changing sand, and glowing water.

A great read! This story is full of suspense and adventure and it's lot of fun to read! Three teens (adventurous Casey, analytical Jack and cocky Mike) go night fishing near the Fiji Islands and get lost and shipwrecked on a strange and beautiful island surrounded by strange waters with two suns shining in the sky. The island full of mysterious and dangerous creatures from sharks and giant spiders to creatures of the prehistoric type - dinosaurs! The kids have to stay alert and survive by their wits and the trio are good at thinking on their feet and figuring things out on the fly. After all, they have to, as dangers hit them from every corner! There's even a little romance too. The most surprising thing is that it's not merely a mysterious island full of strange and dangerous beasts but there is another mystery that is more ominous that the kids encounter - a hidden city of people fighting a battle with other beings. There is far more than meets the eye to this place.

This book is fast paced, peppered with humor with lots of twists and turns with a cool, prehistoric setting and a mystery to be unwound. A refreshing read for those who love YA. If you like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park or Robinson Crusoe you will love this story as it seems to have a little bit of each. It is the first book in a coming series. Great storytelling!
