This first book in a new reverse harem series is great fun! It's sexy, full of action, good conversations, romance, and danger. It's well-written and nicely paced. It has humor and a light-hearted appeal that I loved. The story line was thought out and the characters were nicely developed. The tensions, between the men's egos and between Olivia and the men were believable. The attractions were hot!
Olivia is a great female lead. Strong, smart, kind, beautiful; she's unconsciously competent. She's an equal to the men. Harrison is a man that expects to be obeyed, but he has more depth than a rich playboy. I want to explore his to-do list more! Raul is a sexy Spanish chef. His English vocabulary mistakes, his love of his knives, and his fear of sharks are hysterical. Evan is an outdoor god; fun-loving, and knowledgeable. His health and love of the earth is sexy. Mason is talkative and sweet and his twin Lucas is quiet and romantic. They are almost two parts of the same soul; I find this intriguing for later play. Each crew member is an accomplished sailor so the yacht, Temptress is in good hands. However, prepared and aware the crew is, fate steps in and the ship is in peril. The dream becomes a nightmare in minutes and their lives are on the line. However, this team is strong and they pull together.
Relationships move fast, but considering the circumstances this seems natural. The connections seem real and differ between Olivia and each of the men. They are all pretty great. Harrison and his kink, Raul and his romance, Evan and his sexiness, Mason and his concern, and Lucas...Lucas is everything I could ever want. He doesn't spare words, but the ones he uses are perfection. Incredibly romantic and sweet. I love this guy!
The action lasted until the very end and with the ending came a new unknown challenge. I can't wait!
BUT as a good book? Like anything beyond an RH fetish? I give three stars. I wanted to sink my teeth into this; SO many delectable things could have been done with 5 hot guys and a deserted island. I'm hyperventilating just thinking about it.
Some points seemed to be glossed over, or go too quickly. Like, the boat sinking. It would have been fantastic if it were due to a storm, or something else instead of just a malfunction. That too seemed to go by quick, without much drama.
All the guys were likable, but none of them REALLY stood out, I don't think. The main character, Olivia, seemed to have a real connection with THREE of them, the other two were...eh. I suppose there's more books for that but I would have preferred a STRONGER relationship with all of them, before the...ahem...sexy time started. All in all, everything felt very rushed, but I've noticed that is a common issue with most books now. Everyone wants wham, bam, thank-you ma'am...they don't want to dive in and get lost in the story.
The author also has an aversion to commas, to the point it was a little distracting. Not unforgivable, it can be ignored as the story is good enough, but hopefully it's something the author can consider in the future.
But, I loved the premise, I did like the guys--I just wanted more of them. Especially Lucas. ;) There are hints of future encounters, like some menage or M/M situations. I think it'd be PERFECT for this series to spice it up and really put it above others. Generally, I just want MORE. I wanted them on the island longer, wanted more drama and not-such quick fixes, I wanted more tension. But that's my preference. I'll read the further ones because the idea is great. Although...I don't understand WHY it's required that Mr. Vidal must have a group like this one: 5 guys, ONE girl. That was never really mentioned. I hope that Olivia is a bit more bold too.
All in all, a good start to a promising series. A lot of potential, but could use some more work to make it really shine.
