If you want to understand the mechanics (and some physics) behind the cast, this is the book. It can take a while for the non-technical person to get through it, but it's definitely worth it. It will change your thinking on casting.

Of the books on casting one handed rods (including Lefty and Mel Krieger) this book is the one I like best. The analysis of the fundamentals is incisive and the box exercises are revealing. It is well worth the price. While it seems much for an Amazon paperback, but the quality of the printing and content justify the price.

I am a casting Geek, and therefore I really enjoyed this book. It would not be such a good book for a beginner. I refer to it often.

When Mac Brown wrote Casting Angles, he could not have foreseen the influence it would have in the world of Fly Casting instruction. Fly fishing has become a sport enjoyed by so many not only in the US, but world wide. The contents of this work can help you as a fly fisher is benificial toward learing real deal methodolgies in fly casting. I highly reccomend Mac Brown, Casting Angles. George Forster, Wodonga. AS the other reviewer mentioned, most books on casting expect the student to be satisfied with one or two basic approaches to the art. Mac Brown takes the genre to a higher level by describing the physical forces that control casting and then suggesting a variety of techniques that enable the angler to present the fly in a variety of subtle and creative ways. Despite the clear writing, the book requires a certain degree of effort to master the material. It is time well spent. The author puts the reader in a position to deal with fly fishing much like the expert golfer deals with the short game--the cast (or shot) is different in many situations, but the tools are available to solve the problem presented by the river. Mac is also a great teacher and guide, for those who might be in Western North Carolina.

I've begun to read this book, my fortunate position is I can ask Mac all of the questions, where I am not understanding the point. So far so good, and it's great to be mentored by Mac Brown. He has to keep it simple stupid (kiss) methodology for skills.

Casting Angles is an extensive and detailed study of fly casting and fishing techniques. Mac Brown covers a huge number of presentation casts, techniques and fly casting principles and busts a few myths along the way. Mac is obviously not conventional in either his casting or thinking and it is this approach that delivers an original and thought provoking treatment to a displine that has had much press over the years. Casting angles is a serious in-depth examination of the mechanics of fly casting; a more thorough casting book I have not read, and I've read quite a few.
