About the Author
Originally from Ohio, Julie always dreamed of a job in science. Either shooting for the stars or delving into the mysteries of volcanoes. But, life never leads where you expect. In 2007, she moved to Mississippi to be with her significant other.
Now a mother of a hyperactive red headed boy, what time she’s not chasing down dirty socks and unsticking toys from the ceiling is spent crafting worlds readers can get lost it. Julie is a self-proclaimed bibliophile and lover of big words. She likes hiking, frogs, interesting earrings, and a plethora of other fun things.--This text refers to the paperback edition.

Katheryn was absolutely annoying at times. She was either super independent and strong to complete idiot.
The other thing I didn't like is how easy it was for characters to pass judgement. While I'm sure that happens in real life, I had expected better from Patrick's men. Daniel was a saving grace.
I enjoy the idea of "brooding". Grumpy dragons cracks me up.
In the end, not a deal breaker for the series. I will read the next book because the writer is witty and her realm is charming. I really like how she makes her dragons be cat like or dog like - the behaviors and all of that. The writer has a handle on a fur-person and it is probably the most compelling trait of the book.
I will say - for the number of chapters - the cost is too much. I would have wanted more story for the amount I paid.
Original: If another book gets written, my rating here will probably go up, but she's been ratcheting the suspense up for three books, higher and higher, and then... disconnected story line. Reading a prequel when it feels like the series plot is almost to a climax makes me not appreciate it nearly as much as I probably would have, otherwise. Especially since it is advertised as book 4.
