From the Back Cover
The document, signed and sealed by King Henry himself, commanded Lady Juliana of Lofts to marry Raymond, Count of Avrache.
SHATTERED BY THE PAST . . .
She refused, though it was treason to defy one's king. What man would have her once he discovered her secret?
ONE KNIGHT WOULD CRUSADE FOR HIS LADY'S HEART
Yet Raymond would not be denied. And when he came for her, she'd learn that even the strongest will cannot resist the softest touch.

Raymond has come to the Welsh border to claim the wife and lands given to him by King Henry. But when he finds her he realises he wants more - he wants family, love, respect, and for Juliana to want him too. Convincing her that he can protect all that is hers is going to be difficult - convincing her that an HEA is possible despite their pasts may be impossible.
- Medieval England, Springtime 1166, romance.
- 5954 kindle locations, 424 pages
- m/f - spicy, not very explicit, reasonably frequent, integral to the story.
- Lord Peter, William ("Candle in the Window")'s father and Raymond's mentor, makes an appearance. However, "Castles in the Air" would comfortably stand alone. Knowledge of the previous book is not necessary to enjoy this one.
- Juliana was abused (emotionally, physically), including an abduction and attempted rape. It strongly affects the way she deals with men and her belief in herself. Raymond works to gentle her and overcome her misgivings, as well as show Juliana just how strong she is.
- Some discussion of torture and servitude of knights captured during the Crusades. It affects our Hero.
- There are a couple of formatting issues in my e-version. Nothing disastrous though and certainly not enough to inhibit my enjoyment.
A strong, interesting romance with a clever storyline and enough history to make it interesting and believable. Dodd's characterisations are well done; I found myself caring for the characters and enjoying their drift to HEA.
Dodd didn't have an easy HEA to write.Read more ›
She should have known that sooner or later Raymond would come for her, but she mistakenly thinks he is the King's master castle builder come to build her another wall. Posing as a castle builder - Raymond who really has no idea at all about building anything (you will find some humour here) decides that it is a good way to find out what motivates this Lady Juliana and why she has such a distrust of men!
This is an amazing story with so many plots, twists and turns, yet it still keeps itself very much a medieval romance. The personalities and characters are all complex and it is such a page turner trying to find out all the secrets that are the so central to the telling of this story. So many times, I found myself holding my breath.
I truly enjoyed Raymond and Juliana - both with so much emotional turmoil scarring both of them that it was so gratifying to see them tear down one another's emotional walls and begin to heal each other's souls. Truly a wonderful story.
