I've been a huge fan of the series since the beginning. First video game I ever saw was Castlevania NES at my cousin's house when I was a kid. Ever since I've been hooked and have played very close to all the titles in the series. I even enjoyed some of the infamous N64 games that most hated, although I did understand why the majority didn't care for them. That being said Castelvania Lords of Shadow is easily the best game in the series in a very long time. Even being a reboot it still holds the spirit of Castlevania and you can tell the developers had a lot of respect for keeping the game worthy of the title. I read somewhere that they drew a lot of inspiration from Super Castlevania on the SNES (my personal fave) and you can really tell if you ever played the SNES game. In LoS the music is fantastic, the story is great, the graphics & scenery are jaw dropping and the gameplay is addictive. This really makes up for the PS2 games (which I enjoyed to an extent but were still let downs). I won't spoil anything, but after beating the game you will find even more appreciation for the title as it paints the entire game in a new light. It made me want to go back and play it again after I realized in the end what the entire journey of LoS actually was. As a lot of people have stated, there is a ton of content for you money here. The story itself is huge, plus there are abilities, chain moves, and artwork to unlock. On top of that every area has a different set of trials that you can complete for trophies. There are tons of things to do here and you will definitely feel like you got your moneys worth. The amount of variety in gameplay really keeps you engaged. This is definitely not a hack and slash. There is a lot of depth here and the further you get in the game, the more it opens up in a lot of ways. You really can't judge this game from just 5 hours of gameplay. Another thing I have to mention here is all of the GoW comparisons. I'm sure most of the people making that claim are either in their early 20's or still teenagers. If anything, GoW borrowed tons of ideas from Castlevania (CV). CV was innovative in more ways than most know or have been forgotten. CV was the pioneer of platforming, whip swinging, and set the standard for action games since the 80's. CV2 on the NES was one of the first games to incorporate free roaming areas where you could go from town to battle ground freely whenever you wanted. That game also introduced a day/night clock where enemies would grow in strength and numbers during the night. Again, these were all things they introduced in the late 80's and continued to polish through out the 90's. When games went from 2D to 3D, CV had a hard time making transitions with their established innovative gameplay. With all that said, yes, you can tell they saw what has worked for GoW and used that knowledge to better their 3D game, but these are the grandfathers we are talking about here. They created the action, jumping and swinging game. So yeah, you could say there's some GoW influence in CV:LoS... but us old timers can just as easily say there was CV influence in GoW. In a nutshell, CV:LoS is amazing, worth buying and playing multiple times. I just downloaded the DLC for both Reveries and Resurrection. Can't wait to play them. If you like action games with depth, don't hesitate on this one.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow is a fun game to play. The game play can be very challenging and the graphics are superb. Each board has a bonus quest to accomplish after you beat the individual section and there are power ups to collect. My main beef with this game is that the real time events where there is a flash that prompts you to press a button to perform an action and the many monotonous puzzles severely limits and disrupts the flow of the game. An example of this is where the game throws you into a real time event situation while you are watching a cut scene, or when you are fighting an enemy and you have to go through a real time event in order to finish off that opponent. You even have to deal with real time events to open certain gates and perform certain actions. This is a minor annoyance, but what is the bane of this game is the numerous puzzles that the creators of Castlevania LoS put throughout the game. I found that this was extremely annoying and interferred with the flow of the game. This was intended to be an action adventure game and a few puzzles thrown in which add to the story or goes well with the flow of the game would have been great. In this game however, puzzles were thrown in without thought towards the flow of the game and appears to just be there to lengthen the game play time which is a shame and many times became quite annoying and frustrating at times. If you are a big fan of Castlevania or have great patience, get this game. Otherwise, I think this would be a good game to rent or borrow.

MercurySteam proved that a good Castlevania 3d game was possible. It is indeed an unexpected success, from an unexpected source. I've never had much fun with a game before. They are now back on the map thanks to this game.

The music is beautiful, if you loved the Lord of the rings soundtrack you will love this one. The music for this new Castlevania is darker, but beautiful. Listen to Belmont's theme and Final confrontation. The artbook was good, but I had a hard time removing the game disc from its place. I noticed that not all of the music in the game was included on the soundtrack, too bad.

Comparisons aside, take the favorite elements from your favorite action/adventure games and Castlevania is the perfect mix. Backtracking is actually fun in this game. I have finished the game and now I'm trying to find all the stuff I couldn't find before.

New monsters never before seen in a Castlevania game. I loved chapter four, it's short and it consists of 2 awesome boss fights. One of them is an Ogre...just awesome. The vampire boss fights..GREAT...all boss fights are GREAT!

Some original puzzles...the music box will let you listen to an old Castlevania tune..some nostalgia there. The story is not your typical Castlevania story....but it's a good one. Combat is very good, blocking is actually useful. You can also use your experience points to unlock all of the awesome art.

This game was everything I expected and more...for Castlevania fans, it was about time. For new comers, welcome aboard. The ending after the credits..I felt like I was hit by a TRUCK.

Now for the FLAW. This happened until the final boss fight. The screen went black and the message UNHANDLED ERROR showed up. I did some research and this has happened to others. Some of them claimed that their data was erased, and had to start over again. This was not the case, I quit the game...started the fight again and beat it.

My data was not erased, like a said before I am now trying to find all the stuff. You get a trophy for unlocking all the art, for buying all the special moves...and I got another for beating the final boss again.

The message hasn't showed up again. I keep beating the final boss and no problems so far. All my games required installing first, in Castlevania you start playing immediately. Has any body else experienced this problem?

This is now my favorite game, but I hate to think that an expensive game like this was released with such a flaw. Strange that it happened until the last boss fight. How does patch work?.. I got my ps3 in April, don't know anything about patches. It shouldn't be necessary because we are paying for a high quality product.

However that didn't keep me from enjoying this epic quest. It would have been perfect, I hope there's a sequel. One free of FLAWS like this one. Still, it is an awesome game.

UPDATE: A patch for the ps3 was released on Oct 29th, I think....downloaded it an installed it...played fine for several days...yesterday (11-05-10) while trying to complete the Olrox trial ...guess what.. UNHANDLED ERROR, again. Cox said this was going to fix the issues with the game.....shame on you Mr.Cox.
