VW recommends 5W-40 (or at least 5W-30)
This 0W-40 is better and much cheaper because it is mass produced with higher quality chemicals and is thinner on start.
This oil lasted me all summer and now it's being used on it's second winter, and I still have not changed it since February 2017. (it is now Dec 17)
It's a superior oil that allows for no lag during cold start, very fast lubrication on start. Smooth engine performance. There is just no point to buy oil from VW anymore. It's expenisve and burns out faster.
For example VW looks like Tar Black on oil change day, while this Castrol still has plenty of Golden color left. Not to mention my car still runs and sounds great despite nearing an oil change.
I change my oil at 7500 regardless of oil grade, because VW recommendation of 10000k change is actually dangerous as it causes heavy engine wear and they are in the business of selling you a new car every chance they get.
I used to be a fan of Mobil 1 for my other cars but Castrol is essentially the same IMO so I just buy whichever is cheaper when I need it and go by best weight for the engine
(not necessarily the recommended weight, car companies are not your friends and there is such thing as better than recommended)
