Blog postHi-di-ho, kittens. I've missed you tons!
Well, not even Covid could keep this Heirloom Detective away from antiquing and subsequently reuniting even the smallest of treasures with its family. This 1944 postcard from sailor to his father somehow found its way from New Jersey (where the father never left!) to Tampa, Florida. The sailor's son was delighted to receive it as it gives a unique glimpse into father/son relationship. LOL

Blog post* Do You Hear What I Hear? * Hi-di-ho, friends! Well, here we are, another year coming to a close and the bright fresh promise of a New Year. For the men and women serving in the Armed Forces during WWII, the promise of "Home for Christmas" passed with mortars and bullets, longing and prayers but sometimes ... there was a way to send a very special Christmas greeting back home to family to allow their loved ones the feeling that they were there. Blog postV-Mail Artwork Transporting letters overseas in wartime was an expensive - weighty - endeavor, particularly at Christmastime. Just imagine the sheer number and tonnage of letters (not to mention care packages) sent to the Armed Forces. Today, February 9, is an important day for a Gold Star family from Lake City, South Carolina, but, I think, for many years the significance faded for four reasons: It was too painful for a young soldier's parents to discuss; the passage of time; the death of those who knew the story, and lastly the loss of the mementos explaining why that date should remain a2 years ago Read more

Vintage Beginning: (1940s Time-travel Romance) (Time & Again Antique Shop Series Book 4)
Jan 30, 2019

Cat Gardiner
$0.99
A modern/WWII-era Pride and Prejudice-inspired time-slip novella where timeless romance propels new beginnings at both ends of a wormhole.
Four seasons in time have come full circle to a dawning New Year, which promises great adventures for Lizzy & Will, Charlie & Jane ... and for Doris, the owner of Time & Again. Now that Will has returned from military deployment, Lizzy is full speed ahead planning their wedding, and Doris is preparing for her own “grand adventure”—at 94 years of age! Her sweetheart is waiting for her back in 1946 for a New Year's Eve dance and a do-over life together! Ssh, it's a secret. Only there is a hitch: He won't know her.
But the nearly full moon—and the wormhole—also have plans for Lizzy when Will takes her to the long-abandoned Lucas Elks Lodge, the place where it all began on Valentine's Day 1943. The cold winter night is full of surprises, and enthusiasm soon turns to panic when the portal—and Father Time—demand Lizzy, right before Will's eyes. Doris needs her help back in 1946!
Will Lizzy succeed in her unexpected matchmaking trip through the vortex? Will she make it back in time (if at all) to enjoy her own New Year's Eve dance and hopeful kiss at midnight. Maybe Will's fears that she won't return back to him and the plans they’ve made for their future together has open his eyes to her fears.
Author Note: A few salty expletives. This is a 26,000 word novella.

Undercover - An Austen Noir

A Pride and Prejudice, non-canon variation, Undercover brings a unique voice and new style to the genre: Noir, a romantic, crime fiction novel filled with intrigue, steamy nights, and 20th Century historical fiction. Jane Austen’s beloved characters become entangled in a Philip Marlowe-esque adventure of love and mystery.
It’s November 1952 in New York City where mysterious denizens linger in smoky bars and darkened alleys. The second Red Scare is dredging up a new swarm of “Commies”; “duck and cover” are the lingo of the day. And hard-boiled private eyes aren’t always men.
One audacious dame, Elizabeth Bennet, is undercover in a case of suspected murder: her best friend, Mary King, has been missing for eighteen months. Determined to find the man she believes did the girl in—one George Wickham—her investigation collides with an enigmatic bachelor, Fitzwilliam Darcy and his socialite sister, Georgiana.
Darcy is loaded, from a high-society family with all the money and the right connections for a future in politics. Elizabeth’s a career girl from the wrong side of the East River, but the sexual chemistry between them cannot be denied. She is focused on finding Slick Wick and he is hell-bent on stopping her investigation. But why? He’s hiding something, but she’ll use almost every weapon in her H-bomb arsenal to get his lips flapping.
Murder, kidnapping, and a brainy broad with a body for sin are just enough to break Darcy’s stone-cold reserve. She’s so provocative that maybe he’ll even be taking a trip down the aisle despite where she’s from, what she does, and the fact that she knows George Wickham.
Authors Note: Jane Austen wrote such wonderful characters, I borrowed their names and some of their characteristics to tell my own tale of instant attraction, hard-boiled love.Be advised: this novel contains mature sexual content

Denial of Conscience: A Modern Darcy and Elizabeth Adventure (The Conscience Series Book 1)
Jun 24, 2015
by
Cat Gardiner
$5.99
*Adventure… Exotic… Romance… Danger...Passion*
Loosely-inspired by Jane Austen's most alluring romantic couple, this contemporary romance adventure stars adaptations of characters from Pride and Prejudice and Austen's other novels.
Fitzwilliam Darcy is steel, rock-n-roll, and Tennessee whiskey. Elizabeth Bennet is orchids, opera, and peaches with cream. Thrown together they are physically and emotionally charged TNT, ready to explode!
Elizabeth Bennet, a young woman hiding from living life to its fullest, finds herself willing to accept an untenable marriage arrangement solely for the sake of achieving her father's selfish aspiration to save the family’s historic home. But even duty and obligation fail to hinder her inner conscience from spurring her to leave – to run – to escape before it’s too late. Prompted by a cataclysmic event and the arrival of an attractive, enigmatic man, Liz is thrust into a dangerous liaison where her spirit learns to fly amidst international intrigue.
Fitzwilliam Darcy was born into the wealth of Northern Virginia’s world of refinement and competitive polo. When a horrific family event rocks his world and shatters his trust in women, he leaves everything behind, determined to never look back. Running from his past and the man he once was, he enters a world of danger, first as a Navy SEAL, then as a government-sanctioned assassin. After thirteen years fortified by his hurt and anger, carrying a career moniker "The Iceman," Darcy finds he still can’t avoid his own conscience - beckoning him home to Pemberley, its demons and the man he was meant to be. Fate steps in when a beautiful woman suddenly appears at the end of his deadly rifle scope and he chooses not to take his signature kill shot.
Experience adventure, lust, and danger as we burn rubber on the back of Darcy’s motorcycle through Washington, D.C. and Mount Vernon, Virginia. We'll fly with our hero and heroine to play roulette in Monte Carlo and take the bullet train to Seville to tango in the moonlight. The island of Capri invites us to indulge before our final stop, Marrakech, Morocco where the exotic city of Arabian Nights brings us to our thrilling climax. Will this seemingly mismatched pair find the peace and the life they were both meant to live? Will "conscience" win out with Liz & Darcy finding happiness in one another’s arms? As Darcy would say, “Don’t be afraid. Get on… let’s ride.”
PLEASE READ AUTHOR NOTE before purchasing: Jane Austen wrote such wonderful characters, I borrowed their names and a few of their characteristics to tell my own tale of hard-won, contemporary love.
BE ADVISED: This story contains explicit sexual scenes.

The characters you fell in love with in the modern Pride and Prejudice-inspired Denial of Conscience have charted a new course five months after the dramatic rescue of Thomas Bennet in Marrakech. This BONUS NOVELETTE: Guilty Conscience brings us six vignettes as we await the sequel to the first book in the Conscience Series. It is not a stand-alone piece and it is recommended that you read Denial of Conscience first.
Questions such as: What is married life like for newlyweds Fitzwilliam and Liz Darcy after their whirlwind romance in Denial of Conscience? Can the protective Darcy give his new wife wings to fly without holding on too tight? Can the newly freed Liz learn to compromise after being essentially imprisoned at Longbourn? You’ll also get a glimpse into what the future may bring this couple in Without a Conscience. Does danger lurk around the corner? Although Iceman has retired from Obsidian and trains polo ponies, could he be drawn back into black ops?
Next up: Book 2 - Without a Conscience where Liz and Iceman will take you on the ride of your life in the continuation of The Conscience Series
Author note: This is an original, 11,000 word, epilogue-esque continuance of Denial of Conscience. It is NOT a continuation or variation of Pride and Prejudice but instead borrows Jane Austen’s beloved characters to continue my tale of deep love and daring adventure.

The third and final romantic adventure in The Conscience Series
No man has loved a woman as much as Fitzwilliam “Iceman” Darcy loves his wife Elizabeth. His love is indestructible, insatiable, and his Achilles’ heel.
Since the whirlwind and dangerous adventure in Paris and Moscow in Without a Conscience, life at Pemberley has been a combination of idyllic repose and focused preparation and defense. Darcy’s enemy is still out there—a hair’s breadth from delivering revenge for his father’s assassination.
When the enemy strikes first, Iceman’s world comes crashing down kick starting a firestorm. How far will the gelid warrior go to protect all his loved ones? Just how much is the former Navy SEAL willing to sacrifice? Is his attritional warfare blind rage?—or are his extreme actions in good conscience?
This emotional, wild ride will take you on a breathless, white-knuckle international journey from heartbreak and revenge to survival and enduring bliss because …
No woman has loved a man like Elizabeth Darcy loves her husband Fitzwilliam. Her love is invulnerable, unyielding, and her strength.
Please Read Author Note before purchasing: Jane Austen and Elizabeth Gaskell wrote such wonderful characters, I borrowed their names and a few of their characteristics for inspiration to tell my own tale of contemporary love. In Good Conscience - The Final Adventure is a sequel, and I recommend reading Book 1 (Denial of Conscience,) and Book 2 (Without a Conscience) beforehand. Further, it is an original story that follows the lives of the characters of the aforementioned books and therefore, not meant to be a Pride and Prejudice variation. This novel contains explicit sexual content and occasionally salty language. So if you are looking for a clean, canon read, this book is not for you.

A stunning, epic WWII romance / time-slip family saga
Undying love, born amidst the darkest era in modern history, unfolds on the breathtaking Gold Coast of Long Island in 1942. A Jewish, Army Air Forces pilot and an enchanting society debutante—young lovers—deception—and a moment in time that lasted forever.
In the summer of 1992, a young writer is bequeathed the abandoned home of a great-uncle she never knew. The house has a romantic history and is unlike any home she has ever seen. Juliana Martel felt as though she stepped into a time capsule—a snapshot of WWII-era 1942. The epic romance—and heartache—of the former occupant unfold through reading his wartime letters found in the attic, compelling her on a quest to construct the man. His life, as well as his sweetheart’s, during the Second World War were as mysterious as his disappearance in 1950.
Carrying her own pain inflicted by the abandonment of her mother and unexpected death of her father, Juliana embarks on a journalist’s dream to find her great-uncle and the woman he once loved. Enlisting the reluctant assistance of a man whose family is closely related to the secrets, she uncovers the carefully hidden events of her great-uncle's and others' lives - and will ultimately change her own with their discovery.
A Moment Forever is an evocative journey that will resonate with you long after you close the book. Romance, heartache, and the power of love, atonement, and forgiveness transform lives long after the horrors and scars of the Second World War have ended.

Villa Fortuna - A Holiday Romantic Comedy

Cat Gardiner
$5.99
A laugh-out-loud contemporary romance novel. Discover the prideful misunderstandings and Christmas magic of Villa Fortuna where three sisters from Little Italy collide with the country club set … at a hair salon.
Dr. Elizabeth Fairchild lived an orderly and focused life in Los Angeles until …
an unexpected death, a questionable inheritance, and an eighty-year-old Mafia vendetta required a trip home to New York City's Little Italy neighborhood in the Bronx. After thirteen years of running from her Italian-American upbringing, Elizabeth dreaded returning to the ethnic world of colorful hand gestures, passionate arguments, and living with her two stereotypical sisters in their rundown apartment above a bakery.
Her plan: get in, take care of business, celebrate Christmas, and then escape as quickly as possible. However, returning to the Bronx assailed the senses like her mother's lasagna. She didn't count on Italian pastry, homemade wine, a beauty parlor, and the enticement of a dashing plastic surgeon known to his adoring clientele as the swoon-worthy "Michelangelo."
Will Elizabeth flee her childhood home where the foundation of faith and famiglia is so strong? Or will she stay and embrace all the traditions that once embarrassed her? Should she succumb or resist her elder sister's admonishment,
“Your home is where your heart is, and we are your heart—marinara, cannoli, the church, and the family! The whole shebang!"
