I also own a Cat-Mate 20, and it too is very reliable, but it only does two feedings.
A wooden box was built around the feeder to keep the raccoons from getting into it. However a mouse has figured out how to get to the food by climbing up the tube, but gets only a few kibble at a time. I'm waiting for the cats to discover him one night. The box/feeder is bolted to a pallet and covered with a tarp. A wildlife camera is used to monitor the food station.
Programming is easy after you done it once or twice (the push buttons have a very stiff feel, but that's for a reason). The programing instructions have several steps but are easy to follow (it's not some weird inturpetation). It's recommend setting up and running the feeder for three days before putting it to use.
I use slightly less than two cups of food per day. Portion control appears to be consistant. Feed times were spot on. A little bit of food can fall out of the nozel if you're using small kibble. BE SURE NOZZLE SNAPS IN PLACE or a lot of food will fall out.
I don't use the frequent feed, advanced feed, manual feed or extra feed options, so I'm sorry I can't comment on them. I only use it to drop food three times a day, everyday and I can change the daily amount when their eating habits change. There shouldn't be any food to remove by sundown.Read more ›
New problem, my cat is now fat. The feeder nozzle is wide enough for cats to reach up inside of and pull out as much food as they want. It doesn't take a clever cat, just a hungry one to figure it out. If the nozzle was designed slightly thinner or with a bend or divider so cats cant stick their paw up it, it'd be great. As it is... I might as well just leave an open bag of cat food on the floor for her when I leave.

This is an absolute must-have item! In the past I had tried everything to keep my smart fat cat from breaking into the feeder. I had a sandbag on top with cardboard and a towel wrapped around the units spout. My cat was still able the scratch his way in to steal food...not anymore!
Gary is amazing! He will work with you for your choice of finishing colors. I selected the carpet indoor version. My cats love it using it as a scratching post as well! The vault comes with the base un-attracted for shipping purposes. Gary includes the wood screws for the base, which is in two pieces. Simply set the vault upside down and screw the base on. Food bowl not include. I just used the original feeder bowl. The spout tucks into it keeping it from sliding. As you can see my cats love it! A must have if you have this feeder. BTW: This feeder gets a 4 star not a 5 only because it should have a A/C power option.

I had my doubts, but this machine has been great. Reliable, and allows for much smaller portions than other options out there. Read morePublished 11 days ago by Samuel A. Mead
This thing is awesome! I have 3 cats and 2 of them are/were over weight due to having food available in a bowl 24/7 (that's the way my parents fed the cats at their house) and I... Read morePublished 21 days ago by Janelle Tennant
works perfectly. it's a bit noisy, but you get used to it, and it's a great dinner bell to let my cat know when it's chow time. Read morePublished 26 days ago by A&R
