First, it obviously uses a standard 18650 sized cell, the same size used in laptop packs. They are easily purchased separately but CatEye packages it tightly away, so you're forced to go through them for replacements.
Second, there's no state of charge indicator. If you want a lithium battery to last a long time (and you do - see my previous comment), it's best to store it at about half charged, then charge it before you use it but the only way to estimate charge is to remove the cell and check it with a multimeter. When charged completely (the light turns green), voltage was around 4.2V, which means it's charging to 100%. That helps the total on time - when it's new - but accelerates degradation if you regularly charge it to full and let it sit.
I use the light on the setting that keeps the light on at 100 lumens and then strobes at 800 lumens.
Drivers notably see me with this light on, VS not having it on. For example, they wait when I am making a left turn at an intersection, slow down, etc.
It stays on until I turn it off / no issues with it turning off / losing continuity from normal riding conditions / vibrations, etc.
It has no external battery pack which is nice.
It also looks good / does not look cheap.
Very easy to mount: The mount has a knob with which the band is tightened or loosened or removed on side side to mount the bracket the first time.
USB port is on the bottom and protected by a rubber plug.
It also lasts a good 4-5 hours on this mode, if not more. It is always still on when I finish a 4-5 hour ride. It probably lasts longer, I have not needed it or tried it for longer.
The light is easily removed and attached to the mounting bracket so you can easily take it with you.
I have not tried the light for night riding / constant on. I use it for drivers to see me riding in the daytime.
I have had some issues with cheaper units that I have come to understand are simply branded / re-branded imports. This is why different companies show the same exact picture or light as their light.
The only con to this light is that charging it from the supplied USB cable (as compared to the optional base, which I have not tried) takes a long time, as in 3-5 hours. This is not a problem for me because the battery lasts for my entire ride and then I don't need the light again until the next day, so I have plenty of time to charge it. But if you need a faster charge, something to keep in mind.
The two lights together are great for commuting or night riding whereas having just one would be a bit lacking.
