Fun/Overall - 4/5
I took a star off because it feels a little needless that I'm paying so much for this expansion. I had to buy the base game, then the base Cities and Knights expansion, then the 5-6 player base game expansion, and finally the 5-6 player Cities and Knights expansion. I definitely feel like I got milked here. Way too many purchases needed to end up playing ONE game with 5 other people. That being said, the game is incredible. It's the perfect blend of Monopoly and RISK! It's by far my favorite board game of all time.
EDIT: Jan 20, 2013
More than a year later, we're still playing this game regularly. At this point we don't even play the base game [because it's basically a roll-off]; the Cities and Knights expansion adds significant depth to the gameplay. Luck of the rolls still plays a major role, but strategic gameplay is rewarded well in this version.
Upgraded "durability" stars to 4 - after a full year of regular use, the cards are holding up fairly well.

The expansion itself doesn't include too much. It is expensive for just a few items. I think of it as purchasing intellectual property. You are paying for the idea more than the game pieces. I think the expansion is well worth the money and having the flexibility of being able to add a 5th and 6th player is well worth the investment.
If you want a starter expansion, then this is probably the best one to go with. Especially if you are still new to the game or will have other players who are still relatively new. If you have a 5-6 player expansion for the base, then grab this as well. Don't want to leave friends out in the cold.

Our family LOVES this game. It adds more dimension to the game and is not too complicated for our 8 year old to play. We mix it with Seafarers and Traders and Barbarians. Read morePublished 5 months ago by amazonut
We have a big family, so adding this was a no-brainer. We only wished that this game was designed up to 8 players instead of a maximum of 6. Read morePublished 6 months ago by SelflessHERO

I really like the idea of this expansion but I don't have the energy to make owning it worthwhile. Would only recommend purchasing this product if you know 5 other people who you'd... Read morePublished 8 months ago by Thomas P. Levy
