Your adventurous settlers seek to tame the remote but rich isle of Catan. Start by revealing Catan’s many harbors and regions: pastures, fields, mountains, hills, forests, and desert. The random mix creates a different board virtually every game.
● No two games are the same!
● Embark on a quest to settle the isle of Catan!
Guide your settlers to victory by clever trading and cunning development. Use resource combinations— grain, wool, ore, brick, and lumber—to buy handy development cards and build roads, settlements, and cities. Acquire your resources through trades, cards, or lucky dice (even outside your turn).
But beware! Someone might cut off your road or buy a monopoly. And you never know when the wily robber might steal some of your precious gains!
Catan (aka The Settlers of Catan) has been awarded with “Game of the Year,” “Hall of Fame,” and even “Game of the Century” honors in Germany, the United States, and a host of other countries worldwide. An international favorite, it’s been called the “Perfect Social Game.”

Your spouse will become a tricky, sneaky person you hardly recognize. While you will plot ways to take over.
Side effects include: less tv watching, more under the table kicking, spontaneous manical laughter, snacking while plotting the demise of your friends and family. Best fun you've had in hours!
The replacement process was painless and straight forward. I provided pictures, an explanation of the defects, and quantities of the affected pieces. I received replacement pieces at no cost after 3 weeks. The pieces were from the previous edition of the game, which I don't particularly mind. They are well printed and will add a bit of variety to the game board.
It looks like "The Settlers Of Catan" now has its own dedicated site, which I visited to try to get replacement pieces ([...]). The site redirects you to Asmodee, which handles any missing/defective pieces requests.
Details of defects:
From the combined number token set, 3 out of 5 of each of the number tokens were misaligned, with the "Six" and "Eight" tokens exhibiting the most visible shift relative to the center of the token. It looks like the less frequent the number, the smaller the font. While this makes some sense, it would be more useful for all of the numbers to be equally legible in case you are not right next to the game board.
Most of the terrain hexes with this set were well printed. I do like the new artwork, but a few of the terrain hexes were also misaligned; the "uncolored" borders are uneven around the hexes. Both of the building cost cards in the expansion were printed such that a small "uncolored" border remains at the top of each card after it is removed from the frame.
Depending on how you play (fast or chit chat, fun) a game can go from 30 mins to 2 hours. But I tell you, the ones we enjoy the most are the ones that take a long time because they are the challenging ones.
The game is interesting because you arrange the hexagonal pieces differently for each game, so each game is different. ON top of that, you place numbers on it (from 2 to 12) so when a dice is rolled, if you have a city or house around it, then you get that resource. There are 5 resources that you need to Build things - such as Road, house, cities, and each item may have points associated with it. You need 10 points to win the game. For example, a house is 1 point, but a city is 2 points - but you cannot build 5 cities. Each time dice is rolled, and if you get that resource, you can save it later - we allowed hiding the resource card (put face down), so you can keep your strategy a secret and its up to others to figure out what you may be planning. If you do not get the resources you need, you can trade when its your turn - but you must trade before the roll of the dice (I think).
We play this as a family including 4 and 5 year olds that have now grown up and are masters of this game... The game needs to be played with strategic focus, but dont underestimate the 4 or 5 year olds after they have played this game a few times.
We have worn out the old game board, and so purchased this one.. Its one of those things that we do when family gets together.
Overall, this is an awesome game.
