I was given this ARC for my honest review.
The ending when they came together was very romantic, but I was not fond of the characters themselves. The h often came across as immature. While I generally liked the H, at some points I found him unpleasant. As examples, when h rightfully disagreed with H, he laughed and called her silly. During one scene he told her and then ‘barked’ at her to shut up.
Some happenings were just unrealistic. The h was assaulted twice, but nobody bothered to call the police. The h sells retail from her studio but often came and went without having regular hours. She refused to carry a cell phone, even though she maintains a website where she does most of her sales (even more miraculously, she managed to walk one block and find a pay phone, and I don’t think I’ve even seen one in my town). She hit the driver of a car over and over again with rolled up poster board, as he was driving.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I think I would have enjoyed it more if either the suspense were really amped up or the passion was turned up. But as it stands, it just languishes in the middle of the road between cute and clean and steamy and suspenseful. It's like a cute cozy mystery with a tiny bit of romance thrown in, except in those type of books, the leads are usually bright and entertaining, and here in Catching Lily, neither character is particularly interesting or a standout.
If it weren't for the sweet, slightly emotional ending, I would have rated this 2 stars, but the ending was sweet and a little swoon worthy so I had to tack on an extra star just for that reason.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book received through NetGalley.
I received a complimentary copy of this book.

For me this was just an okay read. I had a hard time staying interested in the story.Read more
