If you've ever seen one, you won't soon forget it's menacing look. Not only do they
not look like a friendly Jiminy Cricket, they make no sound at all, look like something
from an Alien Movie and Jump Toward you when trying to eliminate them.
They also seem to contain lots of green liquid which goes everywhere when crushed.
After doing some research, it seems that glue boards are the best way to contain them.
Not only are the boards working, which I placed on the floor of my boiler room and
unfinished oil tank area, but the other night I heard some shuffling and squeaking and
it turns out the board trapped a baby mole which had wondered in. Perhaps to eat some crickets??
I put the board into a plastic bag and drove to a nearby wooded area and freed the little guy.
Incidentally, there were several adult and baby cave crickets and inch worms on the board too.
I have always had a problem with cave crickets in my basement. This spring an exterminator came and spayed some stuff all around the inside and outside to keep them away. She said this would work for a few months. She also put out some "Super Catchmaster" glue boards. These boards collected tens of cave crickets each! The boards say they catch mice, snakes and all kinds of criters. Mine only caught cave crickets.
Then I found some evidence of a mouse in my basement. I found some shredded pieces of foil from hershey's kisses and some bags of candy and grains that were eaten through. I bought some poisoned bait traps and cleaned up hoping that I'll either catch the mouse or see evidence again. I saw nothing so I assumed I had taken care of him or he left.
Then as my "Super Catchmaster" glue boards filled up with crickets I tossed them and bought this 60 pack of regular Catchmaster glue boards. One thing I did not noticed in the description is that they are peanut butter scented. This is not a problem for people as the smell is pleasant. I guess it is to entice mice. Well, this thing paid for itself in 1 night! I came into the basement to inspect how many cave crickets it caught and one glue trap had a cave cricket, the other had a big MOUSE! I had no idea I still had a mouse, but now I know. I disposed of the board and redeployed another. Hopefuly this was a lone mouse, a male mouse or a sterile mouse, as I hope I'm not living an H.P. I will update as I keep using the glue boards.
For bugs, THEY WORK. I'm not posting photos, because EWW, but they catch all kinds of 6-legged critters. The glue is super sticky!! I've seen a JuneBug caught by just one leg. It's horrible, but it's impressive how well they work..
AFAIK I don't have any mice, as the boards haven't trapped any, but I hope my husband finds a mouse stuck to that board before I do.
P. S. I'm a cheapskate, so i cut these in half the long way (with straight edge razor, NOT scissors!) and lay them along the baseboards. No, you can't fold them up that way, so whatever it catches is right out there "in the open",
EDIT: 05/17/13 Well, surprise! I found a mouse on one of the cut-in-half boards today, so I guess I can endorse it for mice too. My husband took it outside and "dispatched" it. Again, EWW, but I guess it's better to find the mouse and remove it from the house than to find destruction and poop everywhere..
