1st pair lasted me 4 years and 5 months after nearly daily wear and abuse - IN Short I am getting another pair now.
They are okay.
They are not overly comfortable, but they get the job done and are not terrible.
My first pair lasted...period. Only got a new one when I did because my employer pays $75 towards a new pair every year so...why wouldn't I?
I am a truck driver who both drives and spends quite a bit of time unloading and the toes in these boots certainly have saved me quite a bit of pain and actually become useful for kicking things like pallets around, saving my back a bit.
Point: These are well made, durable, sturdy boots. A good buy for less than $100. The only two things I do not like about them that make these boots lose a star are:
1- The strings kind of suck. They broke fast and are overly stretchy for my liking. This is a minor issue, as nice strings are quite inexpensive (couple of dollars).
2- The boots could be more comfortable and the padding inside wears down within the first few months.
Overall, a solid inexpensive pair of boots that could last up to two years, but I would advise, for comfort sake, replacing at least yearly.
Just 3 days into owning these boots I dropped a 300lb generator and thought it missed my foot completely. When I tried to move I found out that the generator was sitting nicely on top of my steel toe. Barely a scratch on the boot.
SIZE: These run a full size wider than most brands, and 1/2 to 3/4 of a size longer. I ordered and returned sizes 11.5 W and 11M, before realizing 10.5M fits me best in this boot. (By comparison, my current Timberland steel are 11.5 eee; my Northface ski are 12 M, and my New Balance hikes are 11.5 dd.)
FIT: This is a roomy toebox, which I much prefer over tighter ones. If this is your first pair of steel-toe footware, remember that the toebox will not mold to your feet as most shoes would. As other reviewers have noted, the ankle area also runs large (good for when your feet swell in the afternoon!). To correct for that, try tieing once at the top of the eyelets and repeat with a full knot after lacing through the upper rivets.
COMFORT: The sole is very thick, and both midsole and uppers take a while to break in. Mine are a bit comfier than they were last week, but my best guess is these will take another full 1-2 weeks to breakin.
QUALITY: A few reviewers noted loose stiches. My pair do not have that issue. Perhaps Cat has some quality control issues. If you get a bad pair, send them back to Amazon for free as defective. The three pairs I recived (for sizing) all looked sturdy and of equally-exceptional quality. The leather grain is coarse and may arrive looking scuffed -- that's normal, these are for work, and to keep costs down you're not likely to get a pair that looks like it came of the shelves of a Gucci store.
OVERALL: Great value. Highly recommended.
