Catherine Baird, Ph.D. is an Information Technology executive, specializing in Cloud Solutions, Big Data and IT Managed Services. In 2010, she joined AT&T "start-up" teams within the larger corporation to lead technology selection, platform architecture and product launches for these emergent divisions. Prior to that, she was CIO & COO of an IT Services firm that handled network, software and computing needs for small-to-medium-sized businesses and nonprofits in Atlanta. Her education background is similarly diverse. Catherine holds a Bachelor of Science (honours) degree from University of Toronto and then went on to attain a Master of Arts and Ph.D in Intellectual History, with a focus on Russian thought and French Personalism, from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. She completed her doctorate in 1998. Since then, she has diversified her experience in business and technology, working as a Director, Architect, Vice-President of Operations and CIO.
In 2013, Baird converted her 1997 doctoral thesis into Revolution from Within, a narrative nonfiction to be released for publication in the fall of 2014. A series of related books and articles are also planned.

Synchronicity After publishing Revolution from Within, I was thrilled to be introduced to remaining family members of one of our heroes in the story, Paul Anderson. You can read about this fortuitous meeting in my post Synchronicity!
The family have shared many beautiful memories with me and, in many ways, done what my extensive reading and study of the historical archives could not … namely brought so many of these people to life in all the complex5 years ago Read more -
Blog postConnections between Russian spiritual philosophy … French personalism … and Unity Consciousness!
It is amazing to see the Russian people reclaim the ideas, beliefs and worldviews elaborated by The 160 so many years ago. Through perestroika, glasnost’, and vozvrashchenie (Return) official government change through the auspices of Mikhail Gorbachev, Alexander Yakovlev and their fellow co-conspirators inside the Communist Party combined with Dissidents’6 years ago Read more -
Blog postAs we transmute the 3-letter organizations who no longer serve us, we the people, globally… let’s take FCC. Instead of Federal Communication Commission (which does not seem to serve the people’s interests and can’t seem to manage much) – how about this simple affirmation:
FREEDOM * CREATIVITY * COMPASSION I was first introduced to this affirmation by the Russian spiritual and personalist philosopher, Nikolai Berdyaev. In his book, The Destiny of Man, Berdyaev anal6 years ago Read more -
Blog postCreation vs Control by American Kabuki January 10, 2015
It seems that life itself thrives on the knife edge of chaos, which is not randomness at all but structures of very complex energies and influences. Life thrives where choice and love thrives. We have a rich universe of life because of choice and a certain letting go of control by Source – yet Source is within each being as it makes its choices and we’ve seen in recent years Source exerting direct control through [th6 years ago Read more -
Blog postIn the interests of promoting Unity Consciousness, I had the brain-flash that presenting Western mainstream media postings side-by-side alternative and Eastern viewpoints might be revealing for all of us as we grapple with this current fascination in duality consciousness.
Duality = either / or. Polarity = two sides of a continuum, both valid or… = both / and I leave it to you, the reader, to discern how you want to perceive this information. Unity = recognition6 years ago Read more -
Blog postNew organizational buzzword for 2015 – Holacracy. It comes with a catch tagline:
“Zappos just abolished bosses”
Given the growing decrepitude of traditional hierarchical organizational models, the inability to communicate effectively across the intransigent silos, bloated bureaucracies, and the knee-jerk defensive responses like “that’s not how we do things here”, “if we didn’t build it, it’s worthless” … that are so toxic to innovation, it is not surprising th6 years ago Read more -
Blog postPaul B. Anderson, Maynard Brichford, Archivist for the YMCA papers at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Bean who’s fabulously maintaining the Kautz Family YMCA Archives @ University of Minnesota, Windy Press where Mary Glenn is Senior Editor
Years ago, while researching my Ph.D. thesis, I found it surprising that many of the best archival resources about Russian philosophers were not residing in Russia, but actually held at various US repositories and, of course, Paris. 6 years ago Read more -
Blog postYou have to admit, even if all of this is a construct for some seemingly unknown purpose, this is an incredible world we’re inhabiting. This spontaneous creative Force we’re engulfed in and intrinsically interwoven into is absolutely spectacular despite all the obstacles we encounter.
That there’s an invasive parasitic force at work trying to gum up the works and usurp this magnificent design and claim whatever weirdness it simulates as some sort of alternative reality is absolutely l6 years ago Read more -
Blog postAlmost two centuries ago, a Russian intellectual from a wealthy family travelled to Western Europe to study philosophy and the Arts. This really wasn’t novel or unusual; at that time most Russians of a certain class had the opportunity at some point in their lives to visit, live, travel in Europe, the Middle East, or Asia and a good number used this time studying and listening to lectures from “the Masters” (Kant, Hegel, Comte…)
So Ivan Kireevsky was in good company as he travelled th6 years ago Read more -
Blog postABC……GOD. by Sophia Love 2/4/2015
What’s stewing and brewing in this head lately is this:
If
A. The being called “god” has no greater power than I.
And
B. I am the Master of my life, responsible for all of it.
Then
C. What is the difference between a being who imagines itself to be god and a being who imagines itself to be human?
I think that answer may be found in belief, aka knowing.6 years ago Read more

Revolution from Within: The YMCA in Russia’s Ascension to Freedom from Bolshevik Tyranny
May 7, 2015
$9.99
**Regularly $9.99, special promotion price of just $1.99 in celebration of Independence Day and the American Revolution!**
REVOLUTION FROM WITHIN is the story of determination, unlikely partnerships, and concepts that are increasingly relevant worldwide. Freedom, creativity and compassion sit at the heart of this book as the author ties the events from more than a century ago back to parallels occurring today.
"When 160 of Russia's most promising intellectuals were exiled, YMCA Director Dr. John Mott and the YMCA Press supported their continuing development of ideas and philosophy. From the Bolshevik Revolution to the fall of the Soviet Union, 'Revolution from Within' tells a true story of intrigue, politics, religion, and uncertainty. A committed group of Y professionals risked their lives and livelihoods to preserve Russian culture, ideas, faith, and beliefs. In doing so, they provided relief, morale, hope, and encouragement to Russians who remained in the U.S.S.R. and to two million emigres throughout Europe." -- Kristen Obaranec, YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta.
"I was intrigued to find out about these ideas on Russian spiritual philosophy, and the individuals--The 160--and how they were influenced by YMCA. Overall, this is an astounding and little-known story about a remarkable moment in time--about two or three years in the early 20s when an extraordinary conflux of historical events, outstanding individuals, and big ideas came together to help lay the groundwork for one of the greatest historical events of the 20th century--the fall of Communism." -- Beth Haddon, Journalist and Former Broadcast Executive, CBC.
"While I have always been keenly interested in Russian history, along with the demise of the Soviet Union, until I read this work I was completely unaware of the integral and vital part played by the YMCA in this quest for freedom or of the power and reach of the YMCA Press. I had no idea that the YMCA played such a pivotal role in Russia and other nations with respect to political transformation." -- Lisa Moore, The Moore Firm.
