My cat and I like to change things up every once in a while because we like to live dangerously, so when it came time to replace the cat scratcher (we owned the Kong natural incline scratcher previously), I decided I would go with something my cat could also sit on because he used to try and sleep on his old incline scratcher and would slowly slide off in his sleep (funny for me, not so much for him). I wanted to make sure it was something that was raised off the ground and bigger in size to accommodate all 12 pounds of him, so I went with this style out of the three. My cat seldom uses his scratcher or plays with toys, so I was pretty sure he wasn't going to use this (but for $6, I was going to take the chance). There was also the big chance that this would be way too small for him to lay on, but actually imagining my fat cat trying to lay on this cute little bench convinced me even more to buy this.

Like any cat, my cat initially ignored this scratcher for the large box it came in ($6 for this an a large box for him to play in is a deal in my book), but the next day he climbed on top and started scratching away. Then, he realize this was way better for lounging in, so every morning he has been sitting/laying in this bench waiting for me to wake up and feed him. I keep this near my bed in a spot where he can easily watch me, and it makes my mornings that the first thing I see upon waking up is my chubby, grumpy looking cat lounging on a little cat bench.

In short, this might not make the best cat scratcher due to the awkward shape, but it does make for a cute photo op and was worth every cent. The baggie of catnip that came with this wasn't sealed properly though and exploded all over my apartment.

I included some photos of my cat using this scratcher because my favorite reviews of cat toys on Amazon are the ones with photos.

I had a hard time finding one of these corrugated cardboard scratchers that would fit my large cat so that he could actually lay on it as well. He had a smaller one from Target that he could only get half of his body on. He's two years old and 20 pounds. Settled on this one (animal print, S-Chaise, 22" long) and it's perfect. Right out of the box he was on it...scratching and lounging. Just what I wanted and what he needed.

Smells like poo !

Order received promptly. I purchased two of these - I was going to give one as a gift. However, when I removed the plastic from my scratcher there was a very foul odor to it. I can only describe the odor as a smell I've experienced at our local zoo, like old animal poo. I thought surely I couldn't be smelling *that* smell - but my husband agreed it smelled like poo (only he used a much more descriptive word). I tried placing it in the hot sun for a day, but that just intensified it, so I know it's not a chemical odor that the sun usually can reduce. I didn't bother to open the second one, because I didn't want more of that odor in the house.
So sad that I have to throw them away as the scratcher seemed well put together and a perfect size for our cats. The smell is just too disgusting to keep in our home.

A fun scratcher that can be used with either side facing up. Unlike some scratchers where I've had to use catnip to coax kitties to use the new toy, my cats enjoyed this one right out of the packaging. They seem to like its multi-function design-- the cats can lie/sit on it, or scratch on it. For the first few months, this scratcher was actually one cat's preferred seat in the room.

My three cats all prefer horizontal or sloped scratching surfaces, so this shape fits the bill. I actually have never had a cat that prefers vertical scratching surfaces, unless it's part of a sofa.

After the novelty of this new scratcher wore off (and the surface got worn down), it took regular catnipping to keep their interest, but that's normal for cardboard scratchers. And at the current price, it's cheap enough to treat kitties to a replacement 1-2x a year (and it's recyclable too!)

Update: Since I wrote this review, I also got the red "Urban Bench" style scratcher, which my one cat likes lounging on even more than the other style. Appropriate since it's essentially cat-sized furniture. See the pics for the fit for a medium-small cat (~8lbs).

Recommended as a treat for your cats, and encouragement to keep their claws managably worn down.

This scratcher was cheap and "cute", so I figured it was a great purchase. Fast forward a couple of weeks and there is shredded cardboard EVERYWHERE! The durability of this scratcher is questionable, but I do not have a ton of experience with cardboard scratchers to compare against. The "cute" side design fell off within a few days, so it's now just a cutesy-shaped cardboard. The main problem with this one is that there is no "base" to catch any of the shreds. We have one of the circular toys with the plastic base and the ball track outside of that. That toy does get scratched like crazy, but it only produces a tiny mess because a lot of the scraps are caught within the holes.
This lounge style scratcher is just the cardboard with the holes all the way through. This means that all of the little bits that they scratch off fall directly to the floor. Or, if they do get caught, as soon as I pick it up to clean the floor, the rest fall out - usually all over the place, rather than directly where the scratcher had been. This is so messy that I am actively looking for an alternative. I believe that the box scratcher type with a solid base is a vastly better design.

Bottom line: the cats do like to scratch this but I am so tired of cleaning up cardboard shreds every day and all over the place that I will never purchase again.

Over the 11 years of having Ruth, I've spent so much money on expensive, top of the range scratch posts with gyms and balls and toys attached, but does she use them?, does she heck, the leather sofa seems a much more fun option for her. Anyway, I thought I would try this cheaper option (much cheaper) out of curiosity. As soon as I put it down and put a bit of catnip on top (rubbed it into the grooves), Ruth was on it in a flash, scratching straight away!! I couldn't believe it!! I wish I'd brought this sooner!! She does mainly use it for sprawling out on and cleaning herself, and sitting there looking like the queen bee she is but she loves it. Although the sofa had to go in the end you may have saved future sofas and armchairs, carpets, rugs and anything else she can destroy, from total destruction. I might even get one for every room well worth the money!!!!

J'ai acheté ce griffoir en promo à 6€30; prix que j'ai considéré normal (je n'avais pas particulièrement vu qu'il était en promo) et qui devrait être le vrai prix.

Mon chat a totalement ignoré ce "truc"; à vrai dire, a 3 ans elle n'avais jamais eu de griffoir et donc elle n'en a donc pas compris l’intérêt.
J'ai utilisé l'herbe à chat livré avec le griffoir et immédiatement mon chat est devenu "folle"; elle se frottait sur le griffoir, faisait des galipettes dans tous les sens...

Je n'ai jamais fini l'herbe à chat car je me suis demandé si ce n'était pas de la drogue tellement elle était devenu bizarre a son contact :)

Depuis elle dort souvent sur le griffoir et fait ses griffes dessus; aujourd'hui le griffoir aurait bien besoin d'être changé, on peut peut etre faire 1 mois de plus en le retournant mais il commence a ne plus être très beau commence a être bon a changé Durée de vie : il a été acheté début décembre 2017 et nous sommes fin avril 2018 (+/-5mois donc).

Le seul problème c'est que le griffoir coûte maintenant 17.24€ sur Amazon.
Est-ce une blague ? jamais je n’achèterai un griffoir a ce pris là. 20€ c'est bien trop pour du carton qui va finir à la poubelle...

J'aurai acheter ce griffoir les yeux fermé s'il avait été a un prix raisonnable mais là je vais voir si je trouve un autre modèle...
En gros si vous avez les moyens financiers, allez-y, sinon pour les autres dans mon cas, il y a surement des griffoir moins cher qui feront tout autant le job.

I have been owned by cats for about 30 years now....I have bought scratching posts, boards, the lot and nothing has managed to beat my sofa when it comes to claw sharpening. I saw this and ignored it for quite a while before thinking I'd give it a shot and see what the cats made of it.

Well....this lightweight cardboard clawing board is it! The one thing saving my sofa! Both of my cats love to claw it, sit on it, sleep on it....most importantly they love to claw it! Absolutely brilliant and a lot cheaper than the clawing posts etc I have bought in the past. I actually bought a second board to avoid hissy fits - one per cat (they'd like more than one each but I have my limits.)

The board does get clawed to bits but can be turned over to double its life. The bits I mentioned do go all over the place but are easy to sweep off a hard floor or vacuum/"push me, pull me" clean off a rug or carpet and I'd rather clean up these little bits of cardboard than watch my poor sofa suffer.

All in all a great purchase - well worth a try if you'd like to try entertaining your cats claws with something other than your furniture!

Edit to add - I never used the catnip, the cats loved this without any extra encouragement.

EDIT: I've had to give this more stars as all 3 of my cats just love the heck out of this thing. They fight each other for it, pluck it, sleep on it, just could not love it any more than they do. I don't even bother with the catnip - they don't need it. Just give up, get one and get a hand-held vacuum.

Got this to stop my cat plucking heck out of my rug every night after I'd gone to bed. He absolutely loves it, as does one of his 2 siblings, BUT....after 3 weeks it's pretty much missing 2cm from the central section as it's been extensively used, and the cardboardy debris is all over my rug now.

So they do love it, but it's not especially robust and won't last more than a couple of months in total. As well as plucking it, they also enjoy sitting and sleeping on it, so apart from its short lifespan it's been a hit already. My vet practice's nurse said to me that cats are often either vertical or horizontal scratchers, but my cat that would normally have scratched on an old sisal reed-based laundry basket is also using this scratcher preferentially.

I basically got this as a proof-of-concept, having read a lot of unfavourable reviews, to see if my cats would take to it before buying Their Majesties something sturdier, and it has fulfilled that purpose. Once it's shredded down to nothing I'll now get them something beefier with the same or similar design.
