From School Library Journal
PreS. Bold watercolors enhance this charming story of a kitten and its hunt for a favorite color. It checks out nine different hues before deciding that orange is the winner because it is the color of Cat's mother, a big orange tabby. The sweet ending should be a delightful surprise for toddlers. The entertaining lesson about colors will be a hit with children and parents alike. Striking two-page spreads quickly draw readers into the simple and unassuming story, while the dramatic and cheerful artwork is a definite plus.?Melissa Hudak, North Suburban District Library, Roscoe, IL

Ages 1^-4. A black-and-orange kitten asks, "What is my favorite color?" and looks at its choices, one by one. "Is it Green? Green is the grass where I like to walk." Big, bold, and bright, each double-page spread features another hue in its background: yellow sand, a red rug, blue sky, purple yarn. In the finale, the kitten reveals that its favorite is orange, the color of its mother. From the striking cover art to the story's last page, this picture book is beautifully designed to attract and hold the attention of toddlers and preschoolers. Blazing with colors painted in heavy brush strokes, even the simplest compositions have a sense of underlying energy and action. This cheerful picture book gives young children a chance to learn their colors and offers older ones an opportunity to show off what they know through the question-and-answer format. Its narrative innocence and visual verve make this a charmer for reading aloud at home or in story hour. Carolyn Phelan

We originally got the hardcover book from the library and I liked that version much more than the soft cover that I ordered later to have in our collection. The pages are glossy in the hardcover version and are not in the softcover version.
