Products offered by Catskill Craftsmen are made from naturally self-sustaining, non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily birch and hard rock maple. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. Catskill Craftsmen operations generate no wood waste. Longlasting and easy to care for, the oiled finish simply wipes clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak in water for any period.

It's hard to see from the photos but this 14" round board has wooden feet. They're attractive but the best part is that they keep the board up off your counter so the porous end-grain isn't sitting in moisture that it will wick up. End grain is absorbent - that's one of the downsides, beet juice will stain it, et cetera - and so you can't leave it sitting in a puddle. This board is only one-sided, but if a puddle forms under it your board is safe. The second best part is that, although the feet are wooden, each one sits on a little plastic insert - a brown, firm, slightly tacky plastic that, along with the hefty weight of this board, is 100% non-stick and non-skid. It sits a good 3" high above your counter; I like that, I am 5"11 and I have short upper arms and a standard counter has always felt a little low to me. If you are very short and have standard counters that already seem too high, though, this may be a negative for you.
The downsides? No blood groove. Again, you do not want a blood groove on an end-grain board - you can't let liquid sit on it, it soaks in. That's why seasoning it with oil works. This board isn't crowned, it's dead flat, but it's easy to brush puddled liquid off it.
The size? Well, it's smaller than some cutting boards, including a lot of plastic boards - mine sits where an old OXO 16"x20" plastic board used to sit. But with the blood groove that board only had maybe 14" x 18" useful area. Also, this board is hefty - as heavy as 10 plastic cutting boards. I like to pick up a board and brush diced-up stuff - onion, mushroom, veggies or whatever - into a hot pan; this board is just about as heavy as I'd like, if it were any heavier it'd take two hands to pick it up, leaving zero hands to push the food off the board into the pan. At first I was worried that the circular board would be harder to aim food off of - I used to tip the corner of the old board into the pot - but it turns out that the smooth, routed, circular edge fits nicely down into the pot or pan, and the slight tack of the wood means the veggies don't slip, slide and bounce everywhere; rather, they slide a straight path down into the pan. So it's actually easier to use that way. Details, I know, but if you want to be healthy you may find yourself dicing veggies every day; don't you want to do it the easy way?
Finally, this board keeps my Global knives sharper longer than other boards; especially the bamboo board I was using prior to this one. That thing was hell on knives, even though I have a very light touch. My knives don't get appreciably duller on this board and they have left no mark at all.
I love this board and I'd get another one in about a minute; indeed, I may do so, have one on each side of the sink, it's handsome and convenient. In addition, do check Warehouse Deals - my board has a 5mm long, 1mm deep dent in one routed edge, barely visible, makes no difference in terms of the function of the board, and I got a significant discount off it because of this.
I am really pleased with this cutting board. The feet really grabs onto the counter top and doesn't move while I'm chopping away; it's perfect for chopping up vegetables and what-not. It looks great in my kitchen, I leave it out on the counter top as if its a decorative piece haha. I followed the recommendation given by another reviewer on the 15.5 Catskill slab. I used the paraffin wax and mineral oil mixture to treat the board before use and will continue everyday for the first week, then once a month, and then whenever needed :)
Highly recommend this cutting board, I love it!
