A Fun Film for Fans of Catwoman & Batwoman!

Shinsuke Terasawa’s animated film, “Catwoman: Hunted,” adapts a script by Greg Weisman (“Gargoyles,” “Young Justice”) and focuses on Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Elizabeth Gillies) running afoul of the criminal group Leviathan run by Barbara Minerva (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) and having to pair with Batwoman (Stephanie Beatriz) and agents from InterPol, including Julia Pennyworth (Lauren Cohan) and King Faraday (Jonathan Frakes), in order to save herself while possibly helping them in defeating Leviathan. Meanwhile, Black Mask (Jonathan Banks) must make his own peace with Leviathan, particularly as he unknowingly brought Catwoman to the party at which he joined the organization. Adding a nice parallel to the superhero fight, Batwoman and Catwoman must fight Nosferata (Zehra Fazal) and Cheshire (Kelly Hu). Rounding out the villain appearances are Solomon Gundy (Steve Blum), Tobias Whale (Keith David), Boss Moxis (Jonathan Frakes again), and Talia al Ghul (Zehra Fazal again). Terasawa’s film uses Japanese anime-style animation and tells a standalone story, though the characters don’t depart too far from their comic book counterparts. This allows Weisman and Terasawa to tell an original story for the forty-fourth DC Universe Animated Original Movie, without diverging too far from the familiar as DC did with “Batman Ninja” in 2018. A fun film, particularly for fans of Catwoman or Batwoman.

I've already watched this three times and I only got it last week. It's a fun story with great characters and dialogue. I love the way they really captured both the Catwoman and Batwoman characters both in the script and in the voice acting - great job folks! This is the best portrayal of either character that I've seen to date, either animated or live action. The bad guys (and gals) had lots of interesting surprises for the home team which kept things unpredictable. Unusual animation style, not what I'm used to but it made for some nice effects. Please do more movies like this!

One criticism is that I really didn't follow what was going on in the leading credits the first time I watched - I didn't realize how important it would be to the overall story and had trouble putting things together - but then the second time I watched it made sense. Another criticism is that the martial arts scenes are mostly the usual movie industry nonsense - which probably won't bother the majority of viewers who can be assumed to have no real understanding of the subject, but it does bother me. I think that aspect of the movie could be much better. But these are both minor problems in comparison to the overall quality of the movie.

The opening consisted of a jazzy opening with the main character getting caught in the middle of a heist in Europe leading to a while car chase. The main character then gets caught up in a crazy caper just to get the treasure. I'm not saying it's bad; I like Lupin the 3rd. It just didn't feel like a a DC story.

So, here we have a DC animated film in which most of the main characters are -- women.
Batwoman is present, sounding and acting a lot like Batman (no firearms in sight).
The top villain is a woman (the sub-bosses are men).
Her boss, head of the League of Assassins, is a woman (a different take on Ra'as Ghul's daughter?).
The Assassins sent to protect the top villain are both women.
Don't get me wrong -- this is a well-done movie.
It's just that, if DC wants to do a movie where the usual gender roles are reversed -- why is it Cat/woman/ we are seeing and not "Catman"? But, really, the film is so good that that hardly matters.
Another interesting feature is the /feel/ of the film: it is the same feel /The Castle of Cagliostro/ has, more or less. That is, Catwoman here is very reminiscent of Lupin III.
Nothing wrong with that -- its a very good feel.

Ever since I was a kid I've loved everything DC. So my opinion is extremely biased. That being said I thought that this movie is very silly and fun, but the lip syncing is off and some of the animations are terribly awkward. I'd say at best it's worth a rent, but definitely not worth a full purchase.

Amazing 4K action sequences

The 4K is excellent, making the detail-rich action sequences particularly astounding. A good example of this is the car chase near the first of the movie. Viewed projected in 4K on a large wall screen with full surround sound it's the equivalent of a big budget Hollywood blockbuster sequence. On a dark night through tight roads over a cliff then plunging through city streets it's a 4k delight. This is another brilliant, animated DC adventure starring wonderfully quirky super-heroes and monstrous villains made all the better in crisp 4K. Plus, there are three cats... one horrible, one cute, and one cuddly. You can figure out which are which yourself.... Bravo!
