Clara Rojas fue secuestrada en el 2002 por las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) junto a la ex-candidata presidencial Íngrid Betancourt y liberada en el 2008 luego de casi seis años de cautiverio. En su libro Cautiva, Clara cuenta por primera vez la historia de su secuestro, el milagroso nacimiento de su hijo Emmanuel en medio de la selva, el sufrimiento inmenso por haber sido separada de su hijo cuando éste apenas tenía ocho meses de vida, y finalmente el emocionante reencuentro con él tres años después.

En este desgarrador relato, Clara revela en detalle el dolor de dar a luz en medio de la selva en manos de un enfermero que antes sólo había atendido a animales, el cansancio de largas caminatas de hasta ocho horas a través de la selva, el miedo de no saber si terminaría viva al final del día, y su amistad con Íngrid Betancourt, que no sobrevivió a la prueba del secuestro.

Ésta es también una historia de fe que revela que Clara nunca perdió la esperanza de volver a ver a su hijo y que la ilusión de volverlo a ver fue lo único que la motivó a seguir luchando

About the Author

Clara Rojas is a lawyer and was the campaign director of Ingrid Betancourt’s presidential campaign when they were kidnapped by the FARC in 2002. She gave birth to her son Emmanuel during her captivity but he was taken from her when he was only eight months old. After six years of captivity she was finally liberated. Clara and her son currently live in Bogotá, Colombia.

Excelente lectura! La autora logra captar la atención de sus lectores desde el primer momento. Con su gran habilidad narrativa, nos transporta realmente al lugar de los hechos y podemos imaginarnos todo tal y como ocurrió. Los lugares, el ambiente, el clima, la humedad, la obscuridad, el cansancio, las carencias, el dolor; muy exitosa narración que nos hace sentir como si estuviéramos con ella en ese lugar. Aunque su intención fue plasmar esta etapa tan triste y angustiante en su vida, nos brinda una verdadera lección de fe y de amor por los suyos. Con sus pensamientos positivos, sus convicciones religiosas y con su mente clara en sus objetivos, logró superar exitosamente lo que para cualquier persona en su situación hubiese sido inaguantable. Qué lástima que algunas personas puedan anteponer algunos errores ortográficos que tiene el libro, ante tan alentadora y motivadora historia. Creo que estas personas no tienen la capacidad para apreciar una lectura tan valiosa como ésta, y mucho menos captar o entender el mensaje de esperanza que plasma el libro. El contenido de esta narración tan bien lograda, sobrepasa cualquier error ortográfico que el libro pueda tener; y esto no puede decirse de cualquier lectura. Recomiendo a todos este libro, pues el mensaje de fe, de positivismo y perseverancia es justo lo que necesita cualquier ser humano que esté enfrentando una situación difícil y de angustia. Felicito a la Sra. Clara Rojas y también agradezco a Dios que la haya sacado con bien de esta experiencia tan devastadora. A elementary narrative of events- not introspection- dissapointing...

Este libro se limita a contar de forma monotoma las actividades que ella recuerda practicar mientras en cautiverio. Realmente falta mucha instroscpeccion y despues de haber leido el libro de ingrid quede con la expectativa de poder aprender mas de la dinamica sicologica que ocurria entre los cautivos y guerrilleros. El capitulo que describe la situacion con su hijo, es un poco mas cautivador pues realmente se ve que esta escrito de forma en que ella desnuda sus sentimientos y corazon al mundo. El resto del libro se limita a ocultar las identidades de las personas involucardos en el conflicto, lo cual hace la historia incompleta. Es como si Clara decidiera ser diplomatica acerca de la situacion y no divulgar lo que realemtne ella siente, y al final porque tanto rezago. Lo de la fe que ella demuestra es una forma mas que los seres humanos se apegan a la vida, y me parecio interesante ver como ella la utlizo para sobrevivir.

The narrative is quite monotonous and not insigtful at all. It is difficult to discern the psychological dynamics that evolved while captive. It resembles a person's diary with out a the instropective element that would caractherize a diary. The author seems to speak from the heart only when it comes to her son's birth and ordeal. After reading Ingrid Betancourt's book, I can say,that her book is better written becuase it engages the reader in a profound way. As many prisioners do, Clara also used her faith in God to become resilient and tolerate the kidnapping. I read the book to cross-reference the situations described with Ingrid's book & the American's book and to take a look at the same situation from a different perspective.

I picked up this book, after reading "Out of Captivity" By Gonsalvez, Stansell, Howes and Bozek; I wanted to gain new perspectives from other victims of the FARC guerrilla in Colombia. Unfortunately, Mrs Rojas book is nothing but a collection of poorly narrated anecdotes sprinkled with loose thoughts and empty narrative.
I really made an effort to read Mrs Rojas material. But, despite of our common upbringing and language, I just could not make it to the end.
My recommendation to the editors of this book, is to take it back and hire a new set of writers and editors that can reshape this thing. If you are reading this review prior to a purchase, save your money and time DONT get it.

Una buena narracion. Me quedo claro lo terrible que fue su experiencia en la Selva, pero si lo leen por morbo no encontraran nada. No dice quien es el padre de su hijo y se queda algo corta en algunas descripciones. Pero es un buen libro para entender su experiencia, no entra en asuntos politicos ni revela nada sobre la guerrilla.

Llevo un poco mas de la mitad del libro y me ha parecido muy entretenido, su relato es claro, detallado y lo mejor es que tiene un glosario con los enlaces activados, al cual se puede acceder al significado y explicacion de algunas palabras, personajes, etc. dandole un click, muy bien en este sentido del manejo del libro en version KINDLE, muy facil de usar. Igualmente Clara Rojas muestra su gran evolucion espiritual, su conexion con Dios que me parece maravillosa, pero no es tan exagerado tampoco como para confundirlo con un libro religioso, como dice una de las opiniones. Me parece muy buen libro, en el que aprendemos muchos de la tolerancia, yo lei "Out of Captivity" y me ha parecido muy bueno tambien. El relato de su hijo Emmanuel es muy conmovedor. En resumen, es un interesante libro, muy detallado.
