In the description for this book it states that it's 2 feet tall (note from the publisher). But it's not. They used the same "Note from the Publisher" for this book as they do for the book that is over 2 feet tall, which is the one I wanted. The pictures are not visible in the detail for this smaller book. I would suggest people to buy the bigger one for the extra price. Which is what I tried to do, but due to the lack of genuine description I have the wrong book.

Stunning beauty-- not just for Buddhists--universal

Carl Jung, the great 20th century psychology pioneer had a lot to say about the power and influences of archetypal images and mandalas and dreams on the psyche. Consciously and subconsciously art and beauty [especially in the form of mandalas] has profound affects on our sense of wholeness and emotional well-being.

This very beautiful book brings the power of mandalas to your fingertips. To contemplate these beautiful images can itself be a great and easy form of deep meditation.

I could hardly believe what a very fine quality production this book is given its low price. [$17.02 as I write this] I only received it last week but have already ordered another to give as a gift to a dear friend.

On the cover we have Avalokiteshvara. The mandala appears on page 21 with the facing page [20] telling us more about this particular form of Buddha. The book calls him 'the most important of the Bodhisattvas.'

And so on through the book-- spectacular icon/mandala reproduction with facing page commentary.

Even without the magnificent art, this would be a first rate spiritual book. The commentaries are succinct, to the point, and deeply spiritually wise.
Example:
" At the heart of the cosmos of compassion is the vision of the inseparability of all existence....The deities of the Buddhist pantheon transport us...into a deeper vision of the world of which we are an inseparable part. These deities are ...expressions of our deepest potential."

A Larger Format Needed

I'm an artist and I wanted to view the Celetial Gallery for inspiration in my art journaling. Unfortunately, while the pictures and artwork are very detailed and beautiful, the format is too small to be able to see much. They need to do this in a fold out or larger format.

I am totally amazed at the exquisite beauty of thangkas and the quality of printing and design. It is to be appreciated in every bit. I am quite well versed in offset printing, but this is definitely a work of art. Its sharp details, color gamut, and super deep density of ink are unbelievable. What is still amazing is that the dense ink did not transfer onto the opposing pages, not even the slightest tint. The choice of paper, printing ink, imaging method, and post production all work together perfectly.

Someone suggested I purchase this book, so I ordered it through Amazon.com but had never anticipated its magnificence! For one thing, it is HUGE and a work of art! I have had this for a year now and I still treasure it. One afternoon, I had a Buddhist monk as guest and remembered to show this intricately jeweled book to him. We had a wonderful hour together going over the illumined detail on these pages of mandalas. Who is this wonderful artist Romio Shrestha, we thought? The text especially written by Deepak Chopra for this large book throughoutits chapters in large print make for a nice tapestry of inspired thought-sharing and insight into the Wheel of Life and Man's dual nature. This is a real museum piece and well worth the price tag!

Great concept, poor reproduction of images.

Of course this is an exceedingly interesting project. Great care has been taken for historical accuracy & authentic material/s..why then, can we not see the images? They should be larger & the book more expensive...or fold-outs...or not at all. There was a compromise here and I am sorry for it.

If you have the slighest interest in this type of art this book is a great addition or reference ppint... meditate on just one of the pictures and find a sweet release of emotion and energy... these are expert paintings and should be treated as such beauty like this has existed for ages and this book gives the casual observer the chance to view it and get a definition... art enthusiasts students even high practioners should gain from this work....
