About the Brand

In 1969, 19-year-old Mo Siegel and his friend Wyck Hay found a bountiful harvest of wild herbs growing around Boulder, Colorado. With friends and wives helping, they picked the herbs and produced 500 pounds of their first blend, called MO's 36 Herb Tea. It was packaged in hand-sewn muslin bags and sold to a local health food store. Hay's brother, John, joined the partnership in 1971. The entrepreneurs set up shop in an old barn outside of Boulder, and they expanded their market to stores throughout Colorado, New Mexico, and the East Coast. The partners also began buying herbs rather than picking everything themselves, and the dream of a national herb tea company slowly began to materialize. This dream was reinforced when Red Zinger Herb Tea was introduced in January 1972 and was an immediate sensation. It remains one of the best-selling Celestial teas.

The company continued to grow and revolutionize the tea industry. Herb teas had previously been perceived as only of medicinal significance, but Celestial Seasonings introduced herb teas as flavorful, healthy beverages, virtually creating the modern tea industry. Celestial Seasonings solidified its sources for obtaining ingredients, such as hibiscus flowers and chamomile, by working closely with herb farmers from the Pacific Northwest to the exotic Far East. This forward thinking attracted the attention of food industry giant Kraft, Inc., which bought Celestial Seasonings in 1984. Kraft's guidance brought Celestial Seasonings to the attention of new consumers, further strengthening its lead in the herb tea industry while also introducing a gourmet line of traditional, or black, teas. In September 1988, Kraft sold Celestial Seasonings back to its management, returning the tea company to independent ownership. The company remains headquartered in Boulder, in the corporate facility on Sleepytime Drive.

The company, in 1991, experienced the exciting return of its original founder and leader, Mo Siegel, as chairman and chief executive officer. Since then, the company has expanded upon its herbal expertise bringing to market successful lines of Green, Wellness, Organic, and Chai teas. In 2000, Celestial joined forces with the Hain Food Group, maker of many top-selling natural foods brands. Today, serving more than 1.2 billion cups of tea per year, Celestial Seasonings is the largest herb tea manufacturer in North America and is expanding internationally at a rapid rate. Assured of Celestial Seasonings leadership position in the herb tea industry, Mo retired in September 2002 to fulfill another dream: to finish hiking the last set of 14,000-foot Colorado mountains he has yet to climb.

Ingredients: Roasted barley, roasted barley malt, roasted chicory root, roasted carob, cinnamon, allspice, and star anise. This info was missing on this listing, so I hope putting it in my review helps you.

Classic: I have loved the rich full flavor of Roastaroma since I was a teen. Now I am older & a Mom myself and this tea is still around and just as good as it was then, so I guess that would make us both classics.

Mix: I have to watch the calories so instead of adding milk/cream,lately I have added one Roastaroma and a Celestial Seasonings Black Cherry Berry tea bag to my oversized tea cup and the two taste amazing together. A couple drops of liquid chocolate or vanilla stevia or some Agave nectar and it is dessert in a cup.

Just wonderful.

Flavor Name: Bengal SpiceSize: 20 Count (Pack of 6)
Both Bengal Spice and the very similar Celestial Seasonings product, Gingerbread Spice are my faves. I make sun tea in my backyard then pour the tea over ice for a very refreshing herbal 'tea' drink that doesn't need sugar, or lemon to quench a thirst. Here in the Southwest where summers are long, hot & dry, it's important to stay hydrated & this is a great pick-me-up.

* This is a non-caffeinated tea

(There's one other thing I do with Bengal Spice that might surprise you. When making jam or jelly, I sometimes swirl a bag or two in the hot jam a minute or two before pouring it in the jars. It adds a delightful exotic tone to some plain-jane jam recipes.)

I LOVE THE SMELL TASTE FEEL OF COFFEE ! However as a health issue i dropped all caffiene including my beloved coffee. Oh the Pain. Several months later i was on a trip and was served ROASTAROMA and it was amazing. Full bodied and rich like coffee without caffiene and not that horrible taste of decafe coffees. I couldnt find it anywhere and checked Celestial's web site and learned there wasnt ONE store within 25 miles that carried Roastaroma ..hence my purchase from Amazon. If you dont want the caffiene, and love the rich smell and taste of coffee...without that decafe taste.....this is the drink for you.

Flavor Name: PeppermintSize: 20 Count (Pack of 6)
Several years ago, I went on a tour of the Celestial Seasonings tea factory in Boulder, Colorado. The guide showed us the bales of tea as they arrived, machines that ground and mixed the tea, and a machine that put the tea in tea bags. The tour included a visit to the room where the peppermint tea was stored. Our guide told us that peppermint was stored separately so that it would not contaminate the other teas. He did not tell us what was to come.

The doorway into the peppermint room was surrounded by bright red stripes. This should have served as a warning to us. We all innocently strolled into the peppermint room. The smell of peppermint was overpowering. It entered my nose, my head, my lungs, and then my whole being was infused with peppermint. What a rush! The crowd stampeded out of the room in a hurry. For the rest of the day and into the next, all I could smell and taste was the mint.

I am now addicted to Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea. Every time I have some, I am reminded of that fateful day in Boulder. The events of that day have changed my life forever. Amazingly, the tea is still legal, openly sold in stores and on the Internet. I think that the tea is great, but then again I am not an unbiased observer. On your next visit to Boulder, take the tour. Or go a safer route; buy the tea from Amazon.

Much better than the teas Celestial labels as chai teas. I use two bags of Bengal Spice to one black tea bag, add a packet of Splenda and a dash of milk and have a wonder rich chai tea.

This is just the best "herb" tea! It's actually a sumptuous blend of a few exotic spices, with a kiss of vanilla. It's yummy as a delectable pastry or dessert but it can be brewed up in a few minutes, smells divine, and can be consumed without guilt (read zero calories, fat, sodium, etc.,). If you love cinnamon, you HAVE to try it. The hint of cardamom, ginger, plus a few other all-natural flavors, simply pushes this tea to the top spot on the delight-o-meter.

Unfortunately, it can be a bit hard to find outside Colorado.

I hope you keep it in stock Amazon. Thanks.

I really wasn't sure that this would taste anything like coffee. When I opened the package it smelled strongly of cinnamon, but nothing like coffee. I brewed it double strength (2 bags in 8oz of water), added two sugar cubes, and a bit of almond milk. It was VERY much like coffee. I have abstained from any form of coffee for the past 4 years, but have missed it quite often. This will definitely fill my coffee void! I love it :)

Finally found the ultimate in tea. The flavor and quality are what we have been looking for for many years. Another plus--the strength is outstanding. You can get at least two cups with one bag. In fact we leave the used bag in a little water, and the next day, add more water and heat (we use a microwave), and it's strong enough to drink and enjoy. We're introducing it to our family and friends, and they are turning into addicts also.
