The assembly to which a camera is attached is made out of plastic. I asked for an RMA order via E-Mail, and they only gave me an address to mail it back to with a 'copy of the invoice.'
Being lazy about mailing things back, and since it was cheap to begin with I tried repair it myself. Where it broke (the three plastic rings on the camera mount), it was impossible to re-glue, because of the torsion placed on those rings with any sort of pressure.
Even if your tripod arrives un-broken, it will likely break the first time you drop it on the camera mount from any height at all.
platform for easy viewing.
Even with VERY LIGHT 1lb payload, there is significant play in the pan and tilt axis due to plastic parts at critical rotating area.
This cause minor annoyance when I move around with a 80mm scope at 12x magnification, once the plastic start to move it would likely be pushed too much than I wanted, too little push and the plastic won't bulge.
It would certainly be a big problem if you push the magnification up for terrestrial viewing of intermittent moving targets.
The transition is not smooth, only when you pan a significant amount then the initial jerking motion would be masked.
This is not a problem for taking still photo as no moving of the mount head is required.
The center geared column functions well for precise height adjustment without meddling with the leg extensions.
For most tabletop and window-side uses there is no need to extend the final leg extension which is noticeably thinner than the above 2 sections.
I've got mine as a bundle off ebay, would not have bought this product separately as the Celestron branding bears no incentive for a photo tripod.
My estimate would be the thin plastic leg flip locks.being the first part to fail.

I'm not crazy about the tripod. It's a little hard to move it for a pan over or tilt shots. It's good for beginners, I guess. But I'm not very happy with it.Published 10 months ago by Nelly Valerio

I broke it with a little movement. The base where the camera is put, is weak. When I tried to put the vertical position, it was broken with pretty easily.Published on December 31, 2013 by VICTOR ORTIZ R.
