The Celestron Labs CB2000C Binocular Compound Microscope offers all the advanced features you’re looking for. With 10x and 20x eyepieces and 4 included objective lenses (4x, 10x, 40x and 100x), you’ll achieve magnification ranging from 40x to 2000x. Improve the quality of your magnified images with the included 3 colored filters. A trinocular eyepiece tube is included, allowing for a camera to be adapted or for secondary eyepiece viewing. The 10 included prepared slides guarantee exciting discoveries right out of the box. This microscope provides perfect illumination thanks its NA 1.25 Abbe condenser and iris diaphragm, which allow to you to control and concentrate light on your specimens. You can easily control brightness, contrast, depth of field, and evenness of illumination by adjusting the distance between the Abbe condenser and objective or by adjusting the condenser’s iris diaphragm, which controls the diameter of the light beam. The fully mechanical stage has knobs to control both axes for easy centering of your slides. An all-metal construction means you can rely on the CB2000C for years to come. The Trinocular adapter allows for the attachment of a camera for taking images of your specimens.

The Celestron CB2000CF Lab Series microscope, is a great microscope for the money, it is well made and has all the features one could want. Features include: magnification from 40X to 2000X with 4 objective lens the highest is 100X which is also oil rated for using immersion oil at 1000X and 2000X. It uses built in LED illumination with an Abbe condenser and iris all of which, are adjustable. The stage has a spring loaded slide holder and is fully position adjustable using a single control shaft. The stage is elevated or lowered to focus using both coarse and fine focus knobs. The microscope comes with 2 sets (dual eyepiece) of eyepieces 10X with pointer and 20X. The eyepiece holder is adjustable for interpupillary distance as well diopter adjustments for each eyepiece. It also comes with immersion oil, 3 color lens for the iris, and a set of 10 prepared sample slides to view. I have not used it extensively but I have viewed several of the prepared slides using all the magnification settings, adjusted the illumination levels and condenser and iris and they all work well delivering crisp clear images. I actually had a decently clear image at 2000X but it would improve much using immersion oil. For the amount of money spent this is an excellent microscope.

As a professional scientist and keen hobbyist, I've used and owned many student, mid-level and high-end lab-grade microscopes. When it comes to optical technology, I have found that to get good-quality "glass" you DO have to pay more. The CB2000C is more expensive than the "Number 1 Best Seller" Omax and AmScope products, but the additional one hundred-plus dollars buys you a SOLID piece of lab-grade "glass". There's VERY little plastic on this scope, so it's quite heavy, making for rock-steady viewing and durability. The moving parts are all well machined to high tolerances, so there's no slippage of the image that you get with cheaper rigs. The 10X and 20X eyepieces provide an excellent through-the-lens image all the way up to the maximum 2000 magnification. A nice set of glass filters is provided and all are easy and quick to install in the stage's undercarriage. The combination light source and diaphragm control give the viewer a wide range of illumination, which is very helpful when viewing live specimens as well as cover-slipped and pre-prepped slides. The trinocular feature (not shown in any of Amazon's pictures of this scope) includes a dedicated eyepiece tube that accommodates either a third eyepiece or an adaptor (not included) for a still/video camera. Unlike several other scopes reviewed on Amazon.com, a full-length chemical-resistant plastic cover, replacement illuminator bulb, suspension oil and a set of pre-prepped specimen slides are included. The parts list/diagram and the start-up (some assembly required) and operation instructions are succinct, easy to understand and very helpful. It took me about 20 minutes to unpack and assemble the scope. NOTE: Be careful when screwing in the four objectives into the nosepiece; the internal and external threads on both parts a easily damaged if dropped! As I plan to view specimen images on my iMac desktop computer, I intend to buy the AmScope 5-megapixel USB still photo & live video microscope imager digital camera (Model 5MP, available on Amazon.com). In short, I feel I got an excellent scope at a bargain price that will serve me well for many years.

Seems to be custom LED not Halogen per spec - I could not find a "generic" replacement easily - returning scope.

Minus 3 stars, specification states Halogen Bulb, it is an LED bulb see pictures. No Spare bulb. Searched for "Generic" replacement, it seems this bulb is custom (sole source) and must replaced through Celestron. That is a deal killer for me. Did set it up, had a speck or two of dust that was easily removed, really liked it; but there is no telling how long these custom LED bulbs will be available. If this doesn't bother you, add stars. Also suggest you leave the LED bulb on for at least 14 days continously - to avoid infant mortality (search for electronics infant mortality - bathtub curve). Every thing else seemed okay (smear of glue on side panel). Really like the scope (basics performed) and packaging - was planning on building a wooden box around it. 7-5/8" x 18.5" x 11-1/4"

I am being generous giving this microscope 3 stars. As it happened with others the light started flickering and has become an ongoing problem. Instruction manual does not give you a breakdown of the individual parts so when you go to clean the lenses it can take some time figuring out how they go back together again.

Summary - CB2000C is a Great Buy! I paid $330 for this microscope as a gift for a friend. The optics are sharp an bright from 40X - 2000X.
I am a professional optical engineer and am notoriously picky about optics. That said, I can be disappointed by high cost optics and I can be very impressed with low cost optics.

I bought this for my 10y daughter as she is getting into science. The photos are made with a phone through lenses, in reality it's more clearer. It works without the different stains for microscope slides but i would recommend buying some stains for maximum effect especially if you are buying it for children. Got a different microscope, but returned it because the 40x objective wasn't working, either defective or bad design.

Glad I did, because then I noticed how much better this one is. The bottom light is really bright. The objectives are higher quality than the other one and turn better, and this one was cheaper.

Now it doesn't come with a lot of extras, but I think the important thing is to have the good quality microscope and get the other stuff that you want elsewhere.

Pros:
- pretty good optics
- love the front and backlight illumination options - switch selects back, front or both.
- comes with a few sample slides
- seems well made, metal construction

Cons:
- no fine focus adjustment, and to go to the Cm1000 (which has fine adjust) you lose the front lighting.
- did not include a single blank slide, tsk.
