Editorial Reviews

Review

"For the newly diagnosed and those who want to learn more about the disease, Celiac Disease For Dummies is a valuable resource. . . . It will be among the go-to books for newly diagnosed celiacs for many years to come. . . . Celiac Disease For Dummies will easily inform and engage readers." (GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) Quarterly)

Review

"The latest 'Dummies' book to broach the subject of celiac disease is a refreshing take on a serious condition because it provides, along with all the medical facts and helpful hints, a huge dose of respect for the patient and humour. If you are looking for an excellent overall reference on all aspects of celiac disease, written in non-medical, approachable language, this is it."
—Janet Dalziel, President, Canadian Celiac Association

For anyone trying to deal with Celiac disease this is a must have if you want to not go crazy trying to keep all the information you collect along the way straight. It has so much easily understood information I purchased it instead of constantly using the library copy, which is not my norm. I find myself referring back to this book constantly and also loaning it out to people that will come into play with the toddler that is in my care. It makes a tough situation at least understandable.

While there is a great amount of informaton on Celiac disease on the web, this book helps pull together alot of this informaton while adding examples and cases of what other people have experienced and lived with who have a diagnosis of Celiac. I would start with this book and supplement what you find on the internet to form a perspective on the disease.

Purchased this book so that I could help a family member who is having problems with Gluten. She has gotten alot of good information from it, as well as her doctor. The Dummies Series is one of our favorites.

I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease and found this book extremely helpful to better understanding and knowledge of do's and don'ts and how to deal with gluten (as in do not eat it). The first chapters contain a bit too much medical jargon but once you get those words the rest is easy to read.

I personally know Dr. Crowe. She diagnosed my Celiac and saved my life. While those of us who deal with the disease know much of the information contained here, there are those with young children newly diagnosed, and teachers and caregivers who do not understand the severity of the disease or the consequences of exposure to Gluten.

My first experience in a grocery store when I was first diagnosed brought me to tears. Now I perimeter shop, avoiding all the things with Gluten. My dentist has ordered GF prophy paste for me and now proudly advertises this availability. Who knew there was such a thing?

Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Crowe knows what she means to the Celiac community. Her book contains helpful information for novice and veteran alike.

It has been very helpful. Even though my testing came back negative, my doctor is still convinced I have celiac rather than gluten sesensativity. The more I read, the more I'm convinced. This book is really good.
