This commentary fills a gap in student-oriented commentaries. The Cena Trimalchionis is an unusual and central work of the Silver Age, and because its style and diction belong to a transitional period, students who are otherwise prepared for a work of its medium level of difficulty need a guide that not only provides background but also identifies grammatical and vocabulary departures from works of the Golden Age. This commentary does that with the greatest tact and flexibility.
