I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a different and unique story line. I haven't read any paranormal books really outside of the norm (bears, wolves, and dragons).
Black has never fit in with the rest of the horse shifters on the farm. Never able to fully shift has left him as an outsider and someone the herds lead mare uses for whatever she sees fit.
Renee has inherited the ranch from her grandfather. When she goes to the farm to meet with realtors and to find the missing treasure her grandfather hinted at, she never expected to meet a man who made her feel wanted and vulnerable at the same time.
As much as I liked this book I just wish there was more meat to the story. For instance I have no idea what Renee did, except follow her rockstar buddy around doing crazy stunts. How did she meet her buddy? Is she only a groupie? What did her friend think when Renee said she was going to stay on the farm? After Lori's injury how does the herd deal with losing the head mare?
I just wish there was a bit more to the story. But I do like the concept of those who are outsiders have the chance to meet their mates.
I have to tell you my favorite part of this book is Black. He is a drool worthy cowboy, a gentle vet, a sexy take charge lover, and he is still emotionally vulnerable. I love that the hero isn’t an in your face alpha male who demands everything happen his way. Don’t get me wrong that is great sometimes but I need a guy with more dimensions to really feel for him as a character. Black has lived his entire life thinking he is not good enough and living on the fringes of the herd of horse shifters because of his centaur form. That is until Renee shows up and decides he is magnificent.
My second favorite part of this book is the detailed descriptions of the ranch. Ms. Ley describes everything so clearly, I have no problem imagining every area in my mind. I wonder if it is based off one specific ranch? And if so can I go visit for a week?
