The collection started out with a bang, and then went downhill fast. I really liked Book 1. The author did a great job with the world-building. There was strong chemistry between the protagonists, and plenty of action. I was disappointed that Book 2 focused on completely different characters. On top of that, Book 2 was full of filler about nothing. I got bored with it, but finished it, hoping it would pick up. Didn't happen. The ending was odd - so much detail had previously been given to inconsequential stuff, but the ending felt rushed and glossed over. What should have been a big emotional payoff was about as exciting as soggy cornflakes. When Book 3 started dragging almost immediately, I jumped ship. Disappointing, because one of the protagonists was a character I'd really liked in Book 1.
Honestly, it was almost as if the first book in the series was written by one author, and the other two were written by someone else. Or Book 1 had a better editor. Or something...
Very odd.
