These are uprated motors. You should know what this means before you buy one of these motors. The real power of the motor is found by multiplying the rated HP (horse power) by the SF (Service Factor) value. For example I am looking to replace a 1.5HP full rated motor. The SF (service factor) for my current motor is 1.50. This gives me a total horsepower of 1.5 * 1.5 = 2.25. To get the same performance from this vendor you would need to purchase a 2HP motor because the SF is only 1.10. This gives you 2HP * 1.1 = 2.2. The problem is that the 2HP motor I need to purchase here is more money than the 1.5HP full rated motors seen elsewhere on the Amazon site. This may also explain why these motors appear to be quieter- they are effectively smaller motors. In summary, whatever HP you think you need, you will need to get one size larger if you are replacing a full rated motor with an uprated version. Now you know the price you are really paying for comparison purposes. On the other hand, if you don't mind getting a smaller motor for your pool, just compare the 1.5HP motor here with a 1HP full rated motor elsewhere.

Here are the equivalent motor sizes to compare full rated motors with uprated motors:
Full rated <-> Up rated
1/2 = 3/4
3/4 = 1
1 = 1.5
1.5 = 2
2 = 2.5

The pump on my pool failed and so I ordered this replacement before I had closely inspected the whole of the pump. The motor is perfect but when I came to install it I found out that I had to replace not only the motor, but also the seals. Then I found the mounting seal plate was cracked so that needed to be replaced too. Then when I came to fit the seal into the impeller that needed to be replaced as well. In short everything except the diffuser needed to be replaced. I would have done better to buy a "power end" unit which includes all of the parts needed and ready assembled. It would have saved a lot of my time and not cost any more. It would have also been quicker than waiting for all of the parts to arrive only to have to order something else.

Having said that there are plenty of good videos on YouTube showing how to replace the motor and other parts so there is no need to spend double on getting a pool company to do it.

If you don't already have one, I suggest also buying a motor cover (I didn't previously have one) to reduce the corrosion if your pool pump is outdoors.

This Century motor is so quiet compared the old A.O. Smith USQ1202. I was pretty much a novice at pool pumps, etc. but was able to install this with no leaks or issues in under 2 hours. Be careful that you get the correct seals though. The ones advertised as a 'buy together' did not fit. It's better just to pay a little more and get the seals from Pinch a Penny where you know that they will fit.

My original motor had a tapped hole at the end of the drive shaft (the shaft you see in the picture) where an "impeller retaining screw" screws on to secure the impeller to the shaft. This replacement motor did not. I did my best to match pumps specs but I may have missed something. So if you are using this motor in conjunction with a pool pump, Pentair specially, take a look at the impeller to see if you need a drive shaft with a threaded hole at the end. Although I must say the pump/motor is working flawlessly without the screw. The threads on the impeller alone seems to be enough to secure it to the shaft and the retaining screw may have been proven unnecessary. But just thought I'd put it out there.

I replaced my pool pump motor with the original equipment. It only lasted two years. This motor seems to be constructed much better than the other. So far, so good! And, if memory serves, it was $50.00 less than the amount I paid at our local pool supply store.

Seems like a good motot, but was not actually an AO Smith. Everything was an exact fit except bolts which hold the motor to the pump housing. Those had to be replaced with new ones which are a quarter inch longer. Runs quietly and functions just as the old one did, but does seem to run a bit hotter than the one it replaced. Anticipate somewhat shorter service life based on the extra heat. Old one ran daily for 8 years. Minor issue: The motor electrical terminal connections are very close to the cable entry hole, and it took significant effort to get them properly connected.

Love it so quiet, easy to install, the only diffence with the old one is, that the old one has a hole in the shaft where you screw in a security bolt so the impeller does not que loose, but it is not problem because the impeller it is secured by reverse threads, like a bicycle rear cranck, the more power you put the more it gets tighten.
