My sensitive skin (non acne rosacea) prefers a mineral sunscreen. I tend to keep my day time skin care simple, and since sunscreen is the most important thing no matter the season, I prefer to use one that can double as a moisturizer. This light coverage tint makes me feel a little more polished. I can tell there is a little tint but it is super sheer.
The CeraVe HYDRATING tinted mineral sunscreen has a broad spectrum SPF of 30. It has a sheer tint that initially appears a tad dark and orangey against my fair pink toned skin. I applied it both on my forearm as well as on my face. True to form, this formula blended seamlessly into my skin. Any off coloring dissipated shortly after application. It is most noticeable on my forearm so I included pics of it being applied, just as it was spread on, and then after it absorbed. Most importantly, I am not noticing ANY white cast. Not sure how dark of skin tone one can go before it appears too light, but if the seemingly darker color is absorbing into my skin, then perhaps it works similarly to those further along in color spectrum? My skin is super light, pink based, and this does add a touch of warm color but not so much that it looks too dark.
Additionally, what I really like it that my skin feels hydrated and slightly dewy. Not greasy. Not covered in sunscreen. My skin leans dry, so I definitely like this. Love that it contains skin barrier protecting ceramides (helps hold skin together by forming a protective layer that limits moisture loss and protects against visible damage from pollution and other environmental stressors) as well as niacinamide (a water-soluble vitamin that works with the natural substances in your skin to help visibly improve enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, dullness, and a weakened surface).

I found that I can apply it after my typical skin care routine (hydrating toners, moisturizer, then this), OR just this as my only skin care. I have tried it under powder make up as well as a liquid. It plays well with both. No pilling on my end. I love CeraVe so I am stoked that this has been so good for me.

Protection:
The product protects well against the sun—there is no denying the protection here. I determined this based on the fact that I have mild acne that gets irritated when exercising or is exposed to direct sunlight—I did not experience this with the Cerave product.
Viscosity and color:
The lotion itself seems to be darker in color, unlike the usual white color you get when using other sun products. The tinted lotion gave me a sense of hope initially. The lotion is a bit heavy and does not feel lightweight. Instead, I would describe it as putting a thin layer of Vaseline on your face. To say that it was a "light-weight" formula, in my opinion, and experience, was just not true for me.
Application and more:
Finally, the overall review. I tried this in a day to day wear and even put the product through a workout session.
Workout friendly? Absolutely not. The product caked up and ran into my eyes. The pinkish-white color that it cast onto my face balled up and looked like one of those running paint lines on a wall after you have spray painted it. I do have to give Cerave the benefit of the doubt as they do not specify that their product is resistant against sweat but it is something to note.
When I applied this product, it left a white-pinkish cast on my face. Nothing like the color that appeared to be in the tube when you first reveal it. Not to mention that it left dry, patchy spots around my face. Keep in mind that I do moisturize and use serums below so there was no reason for the sunscreen to make my face look dry, but it did. I mean, the fact that the product name is supposed to be "hydrating" should say a lot about the promotion of this sunscreen.
Overall, because of this, I say that this product is not melanin friendly and I would not recommend for folks who have darker complexions. Additionally, if you are an oily or sweaty person, this is probably not the best facial sunscreen. I am not saying the product does not work, I am saying that it was not for me and I would not recommend for folks, again, who have more melanin in their skin. While some may judge and disagree with the fact that I gave this product 2-stars because it did not work for me or was not "made" for me, I would have to push back and say that Cerave did use models with darker complexions and gave the illusion that this was for darker skin. So for that, I give it an overall 2-stars.

Okay, so I’m on accutane currently and my skin is incredibly dry and sensitive. I want to make sure I’m protecting my skin but I don’t want to look greasy from classic looking sunscreen. I heard about this product from dr. dray on YouTube and my dermatologist. It has clean ingredients and will actually protect your skin for mild sun days.
My bb cream hasn’t been working and spreading right because my skin is too dry but this stuff, let me tell you, works perfectly as a bb cream and moisturizer! Just make sure you powder it some after applying.
It’s light coverage but it blends out my skin tone and smooths out small blemishes. It makes my skin not look as dead.
I HIGHLY suggest trying this out if you’re looking for a good tinted moisturizing sunscreen.
