Good Quality Pie Weights

This is a pretty good product and it does what it's meant to do. They're PIE WEIGHTS and I use them as such. I honestly don't have much to compare these to, because I bought two sets after reading reviews (you will need 2 bags to fully cover the bottom of one 9-inch pie/tart pan) and these were my first sets of pie weights so I'm not sure what would make them spectacular.

However, they hold heat pretty well. I would need to cool them for a good period of time outside before storing them in a quart-sized ziplock bag. The only reason I wouldn't give this product 5 stars is due to the following:

- you need to buy 2
- it doesn't come with a reusable case

Otherwise, if you need pie weights, get these!

I have a set of these bought elsewhere, bought these for a gift. There didn't seem to be enough in the package for a larger pie, but probably okay to fill just the bottom of a 9". They didn't come in an easily reusable package. The ones I have were in a reusable container. They look kind of dusty too, but the person I got them for simply rinsed them off before using them. Overall, these are great for the price, but there are nicer ones out there.

These pie weights came with lot of white powder, ceramic dust I assumed. I soaked and washed them several times and finally managed to get rid of all of the powder that the beads came coated in. In the process some of the beads that looked pinkish became white. Not sure why they needed to be pink in the first place. These weights are a bit bigger than the Matfer ceramic pie weights, but so far they have worked just as well, and at a much lower price point. I prefer pie weights over rice and beans for blind baking because they conduct heat much faster and if you are gentle in placing them in tart shells, they won't leave markings on the crust.

I bought these for my mother. She usually uses dried beans when she makes her pie crust to keep the crust flat, but the last time she used beans some spilled down into the bottom of the oven and burned with black smoke, smelling up the house and causing me a lot of trouble to clean out of the oven for her. She is 89 years old and can't get down low to clean up messes like this so it is up to me. I do not make pies, but I knew I didn't want to go through this again so I looked for something to replace her dried bean method that wouldn't burn if she spilled them.

These ceramic pie weights seemed to be perfect. So, I bought her some and she has been using these instead. She says they work good. She hasn't spilled any in the oven yet, but if she does, I will not have a big mess to clean up afterwards.

I have wanted pie weights for a long time but don't make pies very much to feel like justifying it. I finally took the leap and I am so glad I did. Beans just don't work like ceramic weights do. The heat that the weights take on keeps it even along the bottom. I make a lot of one crust pies because I am horrible at making pretty ones, so I am glad that I have these. I bought two bags as another reviewer suggested and I am glad I did. In my big pie dish it is the perfect amount. One bag would have been too little, so I would rather buy one bigger more expensive bag than two, but since I knew that information, it was fine. Read the directions to have it work as it is supposed to.

Holds down pie crust

I use these to par-bake pie crusts for smaller sizes. When baking 4" tarts it is a pain to try and use one chain in such a small pan, or to try and cover multiple pies with the same chain. I used two packs of these to hold down six small pans.

It doesn't effect their function, but the ceramic pieces seemed to be of a few different shades and some of them were fractured rather than whole spheres. I sorted them and threw out a small number to kept only the good pieces.

BUY THESE. USE THEM. Stop making a so-so pie crust when you could make a GREAT pie crust!
