ORIGINS, COMPARISONS, DESIGN and QUALITY - Made in China. Comparable in design and build to Excaliber re-curve crossbows made in Canada. Looks like they copied it pretty well. This is not a toy. It's every bit the weapon it appears: very well-made and an excellent value compared to other crossbows at its price-point. (I've seen this model priced between $129 and $250). The only down-side to this unit are the directions which did not translate well from Chinese to English. They are readable but you'll need to put some effort into making sense of things.
Other re-curve crossbows at this price point usually have a single 'prod' that is fed through a tunnel at the end of the barrel and pinned in position by a hex screw. There's nothing wrong with most of those bows: they'll kill a deer just as dead as this one and drive the arrow just as deeply into the ground on the other side. They just take a little more time and effort to square up to make them shoot true. The Chace Wind has the stability of two separate and balanced limbs configured to fit into prefab limb pockets held in place by hex screws. These limbs need no adjustment: just put them where they belong and screw them in.
STRINGING - Stringing a re-curve crossbow is always a bit tricky and this one is no exception: screw up and it will likely be painful. Pay attention, take your time and you'll be fine. This bow does feel and act like a 175# bow but I have no way of checking it for sure.
COCKING & ARROWS - This would be an excellent first crossbow for any adult able to string and cock it. Just plan on either buying or making a better cocking device than the one included with this bow. It's ok but there are better and easier ones out there. Arrows included are aluminum 18" and will not last long. You'll want some 20" carbons anyway.
SIGHTS - I've never been impressed with battery-operated aiming gimmicks on any weapons: I'd rather use open sights. The electric scope that comes with this bow seems ok. I just don't much care for them and would rather not take the time to learn to operate & use them. And, while there's plenty of adjustment on the open sights to make this weapon do what you want it to do, it's not a rifle. You'll be limited to about 40 yards max, 25 yards optimum. It can be made to be deadly accurate so make sure any unsuspecting warm-blooded creatures are out of harm's way.
