I have gone about 8 months without my sandals, and with this pair I bought them new again.
If you haven't owned this specific style (I own a few styles of chacos, and these are my favorites.) then you need to know this above all else: the toe loop is tighter than you might think is necessary, at first.
My first pair of chacos sat in my closet for about a year before I really started wearing them. I didn't like the loop around the toe as I felt that it was too restrictive. Then, I changed jobs - it required me to be outside more often.
Reluctantly, I started wearing mine. After a few days, the tightness in the toe loop lessened a tiny bit. Not much, but enough to become more comfortable and not so cramp-inducing as it was when I first got them.
After wearing them for the better part of ten years- river rafting, beach stomping, jogging the dog on occasion, heavy dirt and lots of soil use... I found these to be one of the best pairs of sandals I've ever owned.
Around d the ten year mark, obviously there was some wear in the sole. Finally, as I was walking through the parking lot of a local grocery store, the sole split.
That was last fall. I knew I could get away with wearing sneakers or boots for cooler days, and did so for a few months.
Yet, I knew that I had to buy another pair.
So, a few weeks ago, I was torn between this style (toe loop) and the less taught style with only a strap across the top of the foot. I purchased both so I could compare.
They both have their pluses and minuses.
I like this style for many reasons over the less-secure-on-the-foot style of Chaco. This style allows me to move about more securly without worrying about slipping on the footbed of the shoe itself. I carry heavy things often- kids, big boxes, heavy printers, etc..
This style allows me to feel more connected to the shoe, giving a sense of a more solid foot placement in procarious standing/walking/movements where slipping at the wrongonet might give cause for injury on sharp rocks, odd surfaces, etc.
The other style is more comfortable for just walking, hanging out on the beach, lower-impact stuff.
That all said- if you're fairly active, I recommend this style. The toe loop snugness takes a little bit of time to get used to. That is the most critical point you need to know. Yet, the plus side of it is that it affords a solid and secure feeling when being active in this shoe.
If you're not likely to pick up a frisbee and toss it about, or go rafting where you'll have to portage a canoe or kayak or something like that- then get the other style if you're uncertain.
I think that this is fair to both styles, and I'm only a consumer of this product- I own no stock in the company, and have no idea where these things are even made. I like them because of my experience with their durability and solid build.
What a shame I really like these sandals , I have worn them from Africa to the Phillipines and all over the USA.
Another company made a great product , worked up a good name for themselves then cheapened everything up.
Save your money and buy some $20.00 sandals at wally world.
FIT GUIDE FOR “HALF SIZERS”
I usually wear a size 10.5 but (Chaco) doesn’t have half sizes so I had to go try some on to get an idea of what I needed before I bought them cheaper on amazon.... Anyways, I got a size 10 because these run a quarter/half size bigger....also I usually like my tennis shoes/sneakers to have about a quarter/half inch of extra room in front of the toes.. if you are a half size shoe like me and like your normal shoes to fit how I do.... order the half size under your normal...
example: if you wear a 9.5 order a 9
This is my preference... not everyone will like their Chacos to fit the way I do...
Plus if they don’t fit you can always send them back!
Also these take about a week or 2 to fully “break-in” don’t freak out if the toe strap is a bit tight... it will eventually get better... trust me....
Very highly recommended for all around use, extremely high quality construction, and a company that actually cares about their products and the people that buy them. These sandals feel like an old friend to me already...
These are also smaller per size than the Chacos I purchase from REI, not a big deal since they fit me but odd.
