Before ordering online, I went to my local REI store and tried on a pair of chaos just so I could get my size.I'm usually an 8 or an 8.5 but they don't carry half sizes so I ordered a size up, so a 9. When I talked to one of the store employees they told me that it was best to go up a size because it just gives the toes a little extra protection and I'm so thankful he told me. Because shortly after buying them, I hiked a waterfall and could have potentially gotten stubbed by so many rocks. Also, these shoes are completely water proof. No dirt or sand even stained them after walking submerged in water up that waterfall. I even biked all around key west in them, it was great!
Just a disclaimer, don't expect to be able to walk in them all day when you first buy them. There is a bit of a high arch support that people are normally not used to, so its best to walk for like 15-45 minutes the first day just to ease into them, and then maybe an hour the next day, 2/3 hours the day after, and so on. Don't just start living in them the minute you get them. Ease into them slowly so you, your feet, and your adventure can be more appreciated. Even convinced my friend to buy a pair, now we're chaco twinz.
I read a lot of reviews before I dropped a ton of money on these sandals. I was skeptical about getting these after reading about the long break in period for some people. I hate when I buy shoes and I can't wear them right away. I was also worried about the footbed and the high arch support because I love shoes that make it feel like I'm barefoot (hardly any support), so because of this I thought I'd be one of those people who needed longer to get used to the shoes.
I watched a YouTube video about how to adjust the shoes before I got them and right out of the box I put them on and had them adjusted in about 5 minutes.
These are so comfortable right out of the box which makes me so relieved! The toe loop is also a lot more comfortable than I expected, it looks cute, and makes the shoe feel more secure on my foot. I usually wear a 7 or 7.5 shoe depending on the brand and I decided to go with a 7 which fit perfectly! I'm going to be a Chaco fan for life and highly recommend these to everyone I know! Another awesome tid bit- if any part of your chacos break or wear out over time you can send your shoes in to the company and they'll fix the broken part of your shoe (for a fee) rather than paying for an entire new pair!
