From the Author
A Memoir and More:
After writing The Chakra Diaries, I learned some people viewed me as a saint, some as a man-stealing tantric temptress. Human, like everyone else, I've had tragedies and betrayals, been bogged down by negative emotions, but I was able to get up and balance my chakras one by one until I had balanced my life.
I've learned to choose love and happiness and offer my story as a road map to anyone who wants to clear the path for healing on all levels. Whether you do yoga, meditate, or have raised your kundalini energy yet, see what awaits those who do!

The universe is a strange teacher, and suffering is her little darling. Chopra's book begins rather dramatically with intense trauma. We weave our way through the author's life on her road to recovery. She actually is already quite into yoga, healthful living and new age philosophy before the book opens. This isn't a journey of discovering alternative world views. It's a book about what happened to her. What made it compelling to me was the fast pacing, the natural voice, and the quirky details.
There is quite a bit of yogis behaving badly in this book, and perhaps that is good because I don't have too much patience with the superman view of gurus. Each person, really, needs to find their own way. If you felt the first part of her book was light on information, rest assured. Part two explains in greater detail what the author learned from Serge Kalihi King, Phd, in Hawaii.
I recommend this book heartily!
In the early portion of the book, Becca moves about with her narcissistic husband, followed by attempts to `find herself' after a horrific accident. Her deep feelings of guilt and self-doubt lead to forays into the various individual areas of treatment listed above, and a move to Hawaii. Along the way, she finds help and lasting friendship with Denise and more especially Julie, an ex-Navy Nurse. Julie, introduces her to her beloved Mark. Sparks fly between the two, but Becca avoids a relationship because of her deep love and friendship for Julie until almost the very end.
To divulge more of the specifics of Chakra Secrets would be a disservice to potential readers. Suffice it to say that the steps taken eventually allow the various parts of Becca's life to work themselves out and she discovers that a holistic approach to treating the troubled patient is best. The story of arrival at this point is variously difficult, treacherous, poignant and fulfilling.
In conclusion, the author has provided a well-written story that readers of biography/memoir, Chakra Diaries, and/or those with an interest in the treatment modalities discussed particularly will enjoy. Reviewed by John H. Manhold, award winning fiction/non-fiction author,
Began this book at Midnight, read straight through until 4 a.m. and waited until the light of day to review.
All of the cliches fit: cliff hanger, couldn't put it down, fast-paced, brilliant writing...yes, all that with an important message: life is the same for everyone, we hurt, we grieve, we suffer, we have moments of joy and passion, and we are all subject to the same feelings.
We are born and re-born both physically, as in reincarnation, and spiritually, as in evolution of the soul...and there are very real modalities that we can employ to overcome our private agonies and move along our spiritual path to fuse with the light. That's the simplistic version.
Author Becca Chopra put herself out on a limb with this autobiographical novel in which she introduces powerful, spiritual healing modalities in a very earthy way. She covers yogis gone wild, drugs, passion, longing, as she takes you on a breathless journey from actress to respected yoga teacher, an amazing roller coaster ride that introduces yoga, rainbow tantra, tantric gurus, microbiotic diet, past life regression, acro-yoga, Ho'opono'pono and a very effective Huna Dynamind technique which can be practiced at home.
The storyline is complex yet unfolds simply and easily, propelling the reader right to the happy ending. And after all the twists and turns, one is certainly ready for that relaxing out breath and release.
