Product Description

Pretty tomboy Kim (Felicity Jones) used to be a champion skateboarder, but now she flips burgers to support herself and her dad. Opportunity comes knocking when she flukes a winter-long catering job in one of the plushest ski chalets in the Alps. At first, Kim is baffled by this bizarre new world of posh people, vintage champagne, epic mountains and waist deep powder. Then Kim discovers snowboarding, and her natural talent soon sees her training for the end-of-season competition, with a chance to win major prize money. I thought this movie was going to be really stupid, but it turned out being pretty cute. I just watched it for Felicity Jones because I really liked her in Like Crazy. I only rented the movie, but, if I found it in a bargain bin, I would buy it and watch it again. The plot plays out like you would expect it to. There are no truly original concepts in the film, but it is still entertaining.

A good-natured and entertaining British rom-com with a winter sports theme largely shot on location in Austria – and probably much appreciated by the Austrian tourist board.
It's a typical romantic soufflé of a plot with fairly stock characters; Kim (Felicity Jones) is a former skateboard champion who takes a chalet girl job in a posh Austrian ski resort where she transfers her talents to snowboarding; the film makes the most of the spectacular settings and the cast put in decent performances in what is a fairly predictable but fun story.
Standard fare for the genre; a nice little film to brighten up an evening – do ignore the churlish negative reviews.
The UK DVD release has a commentary and a short featurette of the première; English subtitles are available if required.

Whilst a touch predictable with a familiar feel to it, the individual and ensemble performances do help to raise a moderate script to a very enjoyable feel-good RomCom of a film. The two Bill's, Bailey & Nighy, in particular raise this film above average with their very different performances and Felicity Jones is a very engaging lead and has good chemistry with the rest of the cast. There are some very funny moments in this film and that combined with an uplifting triumph for the lead character after an earlier tragedy, well shot thrilling snow boarding scenes and magnifficent scenery makes for a good above average entertaining film.
