About the Author

I am a special education teacher who is currently working on a PhD. I minored in history in college and utilize this knowledge and interest in my writing. I live on a trout stream in central Maine with my wife, three kids, a golden retriever and a varying number of cats. I enjoy fly fishing, camping, canoeing, sailing, hiking, and, of course, writing.

Since everyone is entitled to their opinion, I am not going to spoil the story for people and will just give a basic outline of my thoughts. The script has so much potential...

The idea behind "The Chalice" is good. The author, while having such brilliant idea to work with, made some of the characters too well and others not at all developed. The main people in the story, protagonist and antagonist, should have more color and less attention should be attributed to irrelevant characters that we only know for chapter and then they disappear.

Overall, I don't recommend it.

I found the story line interesting from the start. I live in Maine and always enjoy books which take place there. I feel that the author is off the a good start with his writings. He paints a very vivid world in which the reader finds themselves drawn into.. I found the graphic sex and violence a bit too much, but to each his own. I also thought that some of the dialog was repetitive. I do look forward to the next book in the series....John...keep up the good work....

If you want to write a book, I think it might be an excellent idea to figure out the difference between past and present tense! This "author" obviously slept through English 101. Started in past tense, jumped to first for a couple of paragraphs - back to past. It might have been a good story but I simply could not get past the poor grammar. The trouble with all these self-published "authors" is that they are in such a hot hurry to write a book and publish it, they don't take the time to learn their craft. Or learn to edit. Or rewrite. Why do you think this book is self-published? No publisher would buy it.

I knew this was a good book because I was thinking about the characters during my drive to work. Although, I've never been to Maine, I could feel the author's affinity with the beauty of this place that was a backdrop to an action packed adventure. If you are looking for a great escape read that will transport you around the world, this is a great choice for you. I'm happy to hear the author, John Kenealy, has already started a second book in the series. Download this or pack it in your bag for your next flight or vacation.

Though the story line was good it got to graphic for my tastes, and the worst part was, if the author just left out the graphic content, the story would have been just as good. I actually had to stop reading it due to the discriptive scenes. I hope this author can learn to rely on his talent of writing and not go for shock value next time. He does have a very good story telling base.
