I am not sure why the chalk does not come off. I use a paper towel that is slightly damp and I’d does not erase even if you apply enormous amounts of pressure. I tried soapy water and a cloth. Same issue. I finally ended up using Comet to remove the chalk.
If you don’t mind working very hard to erase your daily grocery list then this is good for you. For me, well, I didn’t return it because I felt I took to long to make a fuss about it.

Stickiness is wonderful, too wonderful I should say.

Not sure about the removal but application was very easy. There was one spot that was more shiny than the rest but I just added a little doodle there and it was easier than getting a replacement. I love a chalkboard but, I live in a rental and can't paint my wall so, this was the next best thing. It stays up but constantly bubbles and I have to smooth is out, annoying. I put it up on a closet door and used a checkerboard duct tape to outline it and it helps it stay put. Works. Writing on it is okay, kinda hard to clean; you have to use a wet cloth, a chalkboard eraser doesn't work. I like that it's long and narrow... I don't have the space for a hanging chalkboard and they typically are too small or too big... the size works for me.
