Chamaeleon Church's only album is the soft psych. album you've been waiting for. It fills gaps you may not have known existed in a genre already filled with an embarrassment of riches. So dreamy, so seductive and oozing with an authentic 60's feel; there's not much out there quite like it! It's therefore very sad that something is wrong with the sound of this CD issue. The first track has a left channel that dominates and there is lower level content in the right channel but it is (unintentionally) distorted. There are phase problems elsewhere where it sounds like someone took the mono backup and created artificial (and poor) sounding stereo from it. There is not one word about the band or the recording date in the liner notes or front & back covers. If you can't find an original lp or different CD issue than this one then buy it for the guarantee that you'll love the music. You'd never believe Chevy Chase (comedian/actor) is the drummer.

Chamaelon Church are a prime example of the West Coast style of light pop-psych. Not to say there weren't bands out there that didn't, as there certainly were (Love, Buffalo Springfield, Moby Grape, JA, etc.). But so many groups of the time were more into lightweight psych, with nice melodies and wistful lyrics. This album is very much in that vein. Good vocals, decent production and lyrics about love, friends, and seeing blueberry pies. The song "Blueberyy Pie" is my favorite, even with the non-sensical lyrics in some parts. And Chevy Chase was, indeed, the drummer on most tracks.

Great sound but amateurish presentation. I owned the vinyl and the Family Circle CD and whoever did the remastering did an ok job. The packaging is horrible. No notes. No booklet.
