Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This works well, but set up is a headache, especially if you try to follow the manual. Let me walk you through after my learning experience.

First, I'm using a Chamberlain Liftmaster Formula 1 model, which is the same as the model 3280 that is currently on their website.

Hardware set up: There are 4 pieces in the simple packaging. The wall control unit, the internet gateway, one power supply for the internet gateway, and a short piece of ethernet cable.

1. Remove the current wall mounted control panel (mine is this one: http://www.amazon.com/Liftmaster-41A5273-1-78LM-Multi-Function-Control/dp/B000F5KF1O/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hi_41). To do this, you need to first pop off the large white button from the grey base. This is done by wedging a flat head screw driver or similar device between the top of the white button and the grey base. Once the white button is off, you'll notice there is a screw near the top of the grey base. Remove this screw. Push the main unit up a bit, that will set it free from the second screw that holds it to the wall. There are 2 wires connected, a white and a red wire. Remove them by loosening the screw terminal. Don't worry, there is no significant current in these wires and you won't shock yourself. Attach the red wire to the red terminal, the white wire to the white terminal of the new control unit. Place the unit back on the wall and put the previously removed screw back in.

2. At this point, I reprogrammed all my remote controls. With the new wall control unit, programming remotes are much easier. You don't have to climb a ladder to push that button behind the door opener motor. You push the 'learn' button on the wall unit twice, push the button on your remote that you want to use, that's it.

My wife forgets whether she's closed the garage door. Sometimes miles away from the house, we have to go back to check. I wanted something that would auto-close the door if she forgot. I first looked into various garage-door "add-ons" like Garage Door Butler (which looks like a good product...), etc., but didn't want the hassle of installation, having additional hardware, etc.

I decided to try this first, as the installation looked straightforward (it is) and it would replace my wall unit. My Chamberlain garage door opener is a reletively modern one (the control unit had a digital display showing temperature and time), and it proved to be completely compatible. I initially missed not seeing the temp in the garage, but quickly got over not having that--it was just something I used to glance at out of habit--I don't need to know the temp of the garage....)

The auto-close feature works extremely well. I appreciate the loud beeping it makes when it prepares to autoclose. I let my (little) kids hear the sound, and told them what it was....just in case. Garage doors have safeguards to prevent little kids being crushed inadvertently, which I never fully trust.

The internet connection and iPhone app setup was reletively painless. The online account is free. (Previous reviews say there is a fee. Either they are wrong, or those fees have been dropped. As of this date, December 2013, it is free). I'm not sure I'll use the internet/iphone app functionality much, but it's nice for my wife to be able to check the status of the door, if she fears the auto-close timer had been deactivated or something. Also, it's nice that the app can send you alerts when the door opens, etc. Who knows, I may set up an alert to let me know if the door opens while we're on vacation, etc.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I had a used Chamberlain garage door opener from 2002 sitting in a box in the garage for a couple years, while I constantly complained about the old Genie door opener. When the Chamberlain CIGCWC internet connectivity kit became available on Vine, I decided to get in gear and install the newer Chamberlain garage door opener and then try out the internet connectivity kit.

The Chamberlain CIGCWC internet connectivity kit, assembled in Mexico, is designed to bring MyQ technology to Security+ (not Security+ 2.0) garage door openers manufactured between 1998 and now connected to sectional garage doors only. MyQ technology brings two way communication to your garage door opener and MyQ enabled accessories, and adds monitoring capabilities by accessing a website or using an app on Apple or Android mobile devices. Once connected, the user may open and close the garage door remotely and set up alerts for when the door is opened or closed based on customizable parameters. Plus, 16 additional MyQ devices can be added to increase functionality such as monitors and remote lighting control.

Installation involves replacing the garage door control panel with the included Premium motion detecting control panel, plug the internet gateway into a router and an electrical outlet, create an account on the mychamberlain website, then test the mobile device connectivity. The most time was taken setting up the user account, and even that was a breeze to complete.

Once connected, I tested the MyQ app. I logged into the app, clicked the closed garage door icon and my garage door started to open.
