We installed an electric gate for our 5 acre property. After installation we realized that we would need a way for cars to let us know that they are at the gate. Our house is about 1000 ft away from the gate. We installed the intercom at the key pad and the base is just inside our front door. It works like a dream. We only had one problem and that was after a very rainy week the intercom stopped working. All we had to do was bring it in and reset it to the base and we were back to working

BUYER BEWARE - this product does NOT work with legacy systems - watch those model #'s carefully (they are not disclosed on the listing that these own't work with older versions that look almost exactly the same - including the legacy flush mounts. I had a doorbell go bad and bought this because it came with an extra intercom which I could use BUT IT WON'T WORK OR NETWORK with older model - same frequency - but won't work. Who makes their products non backward compatible on a product that does only one thing: INTERCOM. Stupid.

Call manufacturer, Chamberlain - spent nearly an hour on phone before she figured out I had an older model flush mount and doorbell (again, look identical!), put me on hold, then came back and said it is not compatible. It does say the models it will work with on the box but not on the listing - so how am I supposed to know? Costs me $9 in postage to send it back. Beware any restocking fees - if it's defective you get a refund in full (which it was given the rattling around of something inside the desk unit.)

Chamberlain used to make some very neat products and wireless intercoms for gates and indoor use but they apparently have dumped that product line for the most part.

I read a number of negative reviews about NDIS intercoms but I needed a device like this for my business so visitors can call from the lobby when the elevator was shut down, off hours.

I have a business on the second floor of a bank. The building has concrete floors. I was able to place the visitor's unit in the first floor lobby by an elevator and get good reception on the second floor directly above.

The 'doorbell' intercom unit looks a little clunky, but in-line with basic functionality of the device. The receptionist unit seems well made and is attractive and small.

I needed a unit that was wireless AND battery powered, and this fit the bill. The conversation is a bit squawky, especially if the speaker gets face-to-face with the doorbell unit, as they might tend to do. Back off a bit and things get much better.

Operation is as follows:
- Visitor presses and releases CALL button, chime rings at door and at the receptionist unit (volume adjustable)
- Receptionist presses TALK button, says 'How can I help you', then releases the TALK button, giving visitor time to respond
- If receptionist needs to talk again, he/she will again press the TALK button as the need arises.

In other words, the visitor does not need to use the CALL button except for initiating the transaction, so there is no training for the visitor.

This intercom has a voice activated feature ('VOX') that can initiate a call from the visitor side. I did not test this feature since I would not want this feature in a public lobby. The feature can be turned on/off with a switch.

I used re-chargable Sanyo eneloop batteries for both intercom units. And we'll se how long they last.

I am please with the purchase so far, as it solved a difficult problem where I could not install wires and did not have electrical outlet access.

It is important to put a notice by the bell, instructing visitors to press the bell only once at least every 3 minutes. Or else if pressed continuously while waiting for an answer, it will not operate properly. Equally, in answering the bell through the intercom, the talk button on the intercom must be pressed and held down while answering or talking to the visitor and released immediately after talking, to enable the visitor hear the conversation and respond appropriately. - S. there is NO good option under $100 for a 2 way intercom with ...

We tried 2 of these...the first one would not stay connected for more than 48 hours. We thought it was a dud so initiated an exchange through Amazon. The second one has the exact same problem. These units were not even 20 feet away going through one pane of glass and line of sight. We were using this at the front door of our business, 300+ people coming and going all day, and to have to reset and reconnect this thing twice a week is not an option. We ended up running our own wires and putting in a wired intercom system with a door unlock and bell.

If any other company is reading this, there is NO good option under $100 for a 2 way intercom with bell. If anyone is willing to make a good one and this product is their only competition, they will make a killing.

I was nervous to order this pair due to all the negative reviews about problems, but I've experienced no such issues over the past 6 weeks I've been using the system. The outdoor unit works fine through four walls at a distance of approximately ~150ft from where I typically keep the portable indoor unit. The sound quality is excellent if the outsider user stays about 6-24 inches from the microphone. (Closer or further results in some understandable distortion, but generally you can get much of what they're saying.)

Given my low expectations for this product, I'd say I'm quite relieved and satisfied to find this product does work as advertised. It's the perfect solution for anyone who wants an intercom system that isn't constrained by physical wiring. A worthwhile purchase.
