I actually bought several of these units - one for myself and others to give as gifts.

Personally, I initially just wanted to use this to protect our Christmas yard decorations from vandals. I figured if anyone was messing with our expensive decorations in the middle of the night the Wireless Reporter would warn us. Since then though, we now have it protecting our cars and it gives us great piece of mind. As a bonus, it lets us know when other cars pull into our driveway (60 seconds to throw on a robe before unexpected guests ring the doorbell) and the mailman even sets it off letting us know the daily mail has arrived.

We gave two additional units to relatives that live in rural areas with long driveways. This lets them know when guests arrive and their mailbox is so far away it also alerts them to new mail. Additionally, criminals often lurk on these properties trying to steal trailors and lawn equipment. The Reporter is a great way of letting them know when they have uninvited guests.

We added 3-more sensors to protect all four sides of our home from burglars, peeping toms and to make sure our teenagers are not sneaking in/out of the house.

We get a couple of false hits on one sensor. But, we narrowed it down to the cause being the sun hitting the sensor just right in the evening. So. we just adjusted the sensor and no more problems.

I highly recommend these units and they are far cheaper on Amazon than Radio Shack, etc.

The range is great too. I tested ours up to 6 houses down and it did fine!

This means you can leave your receiver with a neighbor when you go out of town to help monitor your home while you are away.

Works perfectly. We had a thief that kept stealing items from our cars and garage. Bought this and one additional sensor. Put one outside near our gate and one in the garage pointing down over the door so it couldn't be seen by someone opening the door. Took the base station upstairs and had it on when we went to bed each night . . . we were awakened at 5 am by a single beep from the first sensor, got to the window in time to see the thief enter our garage and heard the double beep of the second sensor. He was a little surprised to walk out of the garage and be confronted by myself and my son with baseball bats . . . held him until the police arrived (took only 3 minutes!)

Signal went through 5 walls for one sensor and 3 for the other and had no problem. The beep is a little loud, but we just wrapped it in a towel to muffle it. Easy to use, works just like description, and cheap. Highly recommended.

I bought this unit a few months ago specifically to let me know when deer are in my front yard. I mounted it to a tree 10 feet away from the salt lick/feeder which is about 70 feet from the house. When it didn't pick the deer up consistently, but was triggered by squirrels, I lowered it from about 3.5 feet to about 2 feet off the ground and pointed it very slightly above horizontal. It now triggers every time the deer come around with no false triggers from smaller animals.

One thing not mentioned in the Product Description is that the receiver unit has a relay with connectors on the side. The relay can support up to 120V 10A. This can be used to activate many other devices for various purposes. The most obvious would be a louder (or different) alarm or a lamp. However, with some imagination and a little electronics know-how, you could activate a camera or (the opposite of what I use it for) a noise maker to actually scare off the critters.

The Reporter does a good job and seems to be reliable. A friend recommended this unit and has been using it to detect deer on his property for 2 years. And, just like the manual states, he hasn't had to replace the AA batteries in the PIR sensor during that time.

One negative: About 2 months after using it, the receiver died... or so I thought. I was about to try another AC adapter, when I decided to check the 9v, back-up battery. The battery was dead. When I took the dead battery out (or replaced it with a fresh one) it worked perfectly. It seems that the B/U battery doesn't last long and if it dies, the unit can't be powered on. Solution: Do not use a B/U battery.

There may be similar devices with more features (choice of alarms, volume control), but they will cost more. For the price, I am very pleased. I'm sure if the deer knew how often I've enjoyed watching them (which is one reason I put the corn out for them) and knowing when they're around, they would be pleased with it as well!
