Selecting a Chamfer Gauge on Amazon.com
A chamfer gage, or chamfer gauge, is an instrument that measures the largest diameter of a chamfer, the angled surface added to smooth the end of a shaft. The gage consists of a plunger with three fluted sections for measuring the chamfer, and a dial or digital indicator that shows readings in either inch or metric units. Chamfer gages are available for internal or external taper measurements and an angle range of 0 to 90 degrees or 90 to 127 degrees. Chamfer gauges also vary as to the diameter range they measure. Most chamfer gauges can be calibrated against any certified flat surface. A chamfer gage may have a dial indicator that is manufactured to American Gage Design (AGD) specifications. It is typically used in machining, manufacturing, and mechanical engineering applications. Manufacturers include Starrett.
