"In Champions of the Rosary, Fr. Calloway has written what is probably the most comprehensive book ever written on the rosary. The author deftly negotiates the complexities of the story of the rosary, weaving the historical, theological, and devotional strands into a veritable masterpiece of scholarship and piety." Most Rev. J. Augustine Di Noia, OP, PhD. Assistant Secretary for the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith (Vatican City)
"Champions of the Rosary is an extremely insightful, pious, and scholarly work on the rosary. Father Calloway's insights and contributions into the history and heroes of the rosary will not go unnoticed or unappreciated." -- His Eminence Christoph Maria Cardinal Schonborn, OP, STD Archbishop of Vienna, Austria

Firstly, the history chapter is thorough. In a couple of places I would have loved a date or two, but few people are going to be as picky as I am with history. I like to plot things on a timeline. This portion is well researched and well defended. It could have been its own book.
Secondly, the section on Saints and Blesseds and others who have championed the Rosary is incredibly well done. Each section is a short biography. This would be useful in a home school history class, and it is worth the price of the book by itself.
Third, illustrations and photographs. So many books lack something in this department, but not this book! Each person in the second part has an image for their chapter. Later in the book is a section of extant images showing the rosary in art. I doubt you could find more of these in any other book not an art book.
Finally, the section on praying the Rosary. It is complete as you could wish.
I thought I knew a lot about the Rosary, but this book gave me so much to chew on that I have had to add post-it tabs to mark various pages I want to be able to find more easily. I took notes! I even found the material for this book creeping into my journalling and coming to mind as I prayed.
Get this book, for yourself, for your home school, for the catechist, deacon, or priest you know!
He delves into the history, and development of not only the rosary itself - but also the prayers themselves, explaining where the Hail Mary came from ( Scripture for the first half) and where we got it's ending. He also talks about saints who were devoted to this prayer and why the world needs it at this point.
He talks, also about miracles wrought with its help and even battles won because of the assistance it gave. --and this is only the first half! I can not wait to finish it.
I especially urge everyone with questions about the Rosary to read this - it will answer so many.
This book is an excellent, well researched book. It's enjoyable to read and has pictures in it for your reference. The book has a tidbit about each saint and their thoughts on the rosary. It also includes discussions drawing from the bible in regards to the Rosary and it's importance. I truly love thi book. In fact, I also bought his other book - the Rosary Gems.
This book has also inspired me to get off my butt and do the rosary every day as opposed to just 3 days a week. I hope you all will give this book a chance and join in becoming a "knight" with the rosary as your "sword."
Well worth the price for the book! I recommend every Catholic family in the best interest of your family to add and read often this lovely book to your home library!
