It only turn on after the door has been closed...there is a button in the crack of the door that is suppose to be triggered when the door closes.....if it doesn't reach the button, then sometimes it won't turn on.....

I've had the same problem. At first, I took it out and put it back in but after a few times of doing that, it didn't work any longer. I also tried turning the switch on and off and that worked at first, but alas, no more. For this much money, can't Mattel get it right?

Also, we've noticed ours gets disengaged as the kids force dolls into the elevator. It doesn't snap tightly enough into the ceiling and may just need reseated (that or, as previously mentioned, the finicky door closure switch just isn't pressing the button).
