Detective Kirk Miner is called to the scene and quickly uncovers a chilling conspiracy involving organ donations and high-stakes crime. As the investigation unfolds, Miner realizes the case is far more complex and dangerous than it initially seemed.
Enter FBI Agent Jack Mulville, who steps in to supervise Special Agent Charlotte Bloom as they join forces with Miner. Together, they unravel a web of corruption, revealing that Amy Winter's death is connected to a ruthless organ trafficking ring.
Amy Winter, a promising pre-med student, is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Her death triggers an investigation that pulls Miner, Mulville, and Bloom into a labyrinth of deceit and desperation. As they dig deeper, they discover that Amy's heart is not just a donor's gift but a coveted prize in a deadly game controlled by criminals willing to kill to keep their secrets hidden.
The quest for justice takes Miner, Mulville, and Bloom through the shadowy underbelly of organ trafficking, revealing the lengths to which people will go to secure life-saving transplants. Change of Heart was a page turner as the plot surprises kept me alter and engaged. I didn’t want to put it down. As a cardiologist, Dr. Cristina LePort gives the reader an inside look at the life saving demands on a heart doctor. And as an insightful author, she gave me deep engagement with a detective, FBI agents, and mobsters in a murder mystery and love story.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2025The sequel to Dissection has arrived! The return of Miner and Mulville (IYKYK)!! A smart, intense, and thought-provoking medical thriller. Every chapter ends with a cliffhanger, making it impossible to put the book down. Cristina’s knowledge of the medical field is impressive, adding a layer of authenticity to the story. The descriptions of complex medical procedures and conditions are clear and informative, without ever feeling overwhelming, which makes the novel both educational and thrilling. Highly recommended for fans of fast-paced, high-stakes thrillers. A must-read!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2025I give this book 3.5 stars which rounds up to 4.
This is the second book in the Miner & Mulville series, but can be read as a standalone. I have not read the first book and was able to follow this book just fine.
My first impression was that it was very evident the author is a doctor. The medical parts were incredibly detailed. I know very little about hearts, heart transplants, and organ donations, but it seemed to me the author knew exactly what she was talking about. This medical knowledge really added to book and made the story feel authentic. Also, the medical parts were easy to understand and were discussed in layman’s terms.
I liked the lead characters, especially Kirk Miner. I liked his style of investigating. Charlotte Bloom, the rookie FBI agent, was also an interesting character. She was smart and determined. When it came to the supporting characters, I loved Dr. Zayne Wilder and his romance with Charlotte.
As for the story, it was fairly predictable. I did see some of the plot twists coming. I wasn’t shocked by anything that happened. It was still an exciting read; I just wasn’t blown away by it. When it comes to thrillers, I like being surprised by the twists and turns.
Overall, this was a solid medical thriller. If you like medical thrillers and don’t mind a slightly predictable storyline, then give it a chance!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2025You might think that this story has a slow start but midway it gathers steam and makes up for it. …. The startling twists and turns are a roller coaster of a read that you don’t want to slow down and are sorry when it stops.
“Change of Heart” is an engaging read especially for a lazy afternoon or at the beach .

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2025Leport's medical background shows. Just when I thought I knew the ending, she through in another twist. Great plotting.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2025I am normally a huge fan of medical thrillers but this one just didn't thrill me. It didn't even get my heart rate up. It was a slow burn for the entire book. The premise sounded good - a conspiracy involving organ donations & people getting murdered for their organs. But the execution was off. It never really got exciting. It was just an average murder mystery with no suspense to it whatsoever. I am rounding this up from a 2.5 to a 3.

PatReviewed in the United Kingdom on April 24, 20253.0 out of 5 stars Shame about the inaccuracy
It's an OK read although the donor 1, patient 1 links got a bit confusing, maybe because I wasn't paying enough attention. It certainly isn't 'un-put-down-able'. I found it strange though, that the author, a physician, kept referring to people with blood type O as universal donors. They're not. O positive is the most common blood type but universal donors have the much rarer blood type O negative. I guess she considered it worth sacrificing accuracy for the sake of the story.
